The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team reeled in two more major awards Friday, as USCHO named
Lara Stalder a First Team All-American and
Sidney Morin a Third Team All-American.
The first Bulldog duo to earn All-American honors in the same year since Caroline Ouellette and Julianne Vaischek both earned nods after the 2004-05 season, Stalder and Morin are just the fourth pair to earn the accolades in the same year in program history. Â
Already named a CCM Hockey First Team All-American and a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award top-three finalist, Stalder led the Bulldogs in scoring this season, averaging an NCAA best 1.60 points per game on 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 35 games.  A native of Luzern, Switzerland, Stalder -- named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Player of the Year, as well as the WCHA's Student Athlete of the Year -- also ranked fourth in assists per game (0.94) and fourth in goals per game (0.66) in the NCAA.  She had 17 multiple point games for the Bulldogs, including seven outings with three or more points, and in 15 games against top-10 opponents, Stalder had eight goals and 12 assists for 19 points.
Stalder earned the first-ever Women's Hockey Association Player of the Month for January 2017, and was named the WCHA's Offensive Player of the Month for January 2017. Five times the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week this season, Stalder won the weekly award on Jan. 31, Jan. 24, Jan. 17, Nov. 15 and Oct. 11. Stalder was named a 2016-17 WCHA Scholar Athlete, to the 2016-17 WCHA All-Academic Team and carries a 3.719 Cumulative GPA as a Retail Marketing Analytics major.
Morin, a product of Minnetonka, Minn., finished her senior campaign ranked seventh among all defensemen in the NCAA and second in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists in 37 games.  Named the WCHA's 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year, Morin also garnered Second Team All-WCHA honors after registering a career-high in points and power play goals, with a league-leading four from the backline.  Morin had two game-winning goals in addition to a WCHA-best 119 shots on goal.  In four seasons with UMD, Morin finished her career ranked the 7th highest scoring blueliner in history with 70 points, and owns nine goals -- the fifth-most by a defenseman -- and 51 assists that ranks her sixth all-time.  Morin has the UMD record for consecutive games played (147), she also now sits sixth in total games played over a career (147).
Morin, an alternate captain, was also a 2016-17 WCHA Scholar Athlete, as well as a 2016-17 WCHAÂ All-Academic Team member.
Stalder becomes the 14th overall First Team All-America in UMD's program, while Morin is the first defenseman to land the honor since Brigette Lacquette was a USCHO Third Team All-American in 2012-13.  There have been just five Bulldog defensemen to land All-American accolades in program history.
