UMD MAKES QUICK WORK OF PENN STATE BERKS IN ORLANDO OPENER

The University of Minnesota Duluth launched its first spring break trip in 21 years by toppling Penn State Berks 9-0 on Monday night in Orlando, Fla.

Senior Shelby Benkofske (No. 1), freshman Megan Anderson (No. 2), junior Kelsey Zetah (No. 3), freshmen Elsa Erickson (No. 4) and Macey Tellijohn (No. 5) and sophomore Mikayla Gottwalt (No. 6) all won their singles matches in straight sets and between the six lost a combined 10 games. Anderson, who now sports an 8-3 singles record in 2017,  and senior Drew DeCorsey prevailed (8-3) at No. 1 doubles while juniors Jillian Klasen and Karly Weber (8-4 at No. 2) and Tellijohn and sophomore Rachel Menke (8-4 at No. 3).

UMD, which improved to 6-5 on the year, will face Stonehill College (9 a.m. CT) and the College of St. Benedict (5:30 p.m.) on Tuesday.
