BULLDOGS ADD FOUR TO WRAP UP 2017 SIGNING CLASS

Head coach Matt Bowen and the University of Minnesota Duluth have added four more players to its 2017 signing class, picking up a junior college transfer and three freshman, announced Wednesday.

23121Mamadou Ngom, a junior transfer out of Anoka-Ramsey Community College, will join the Bulldog backcourt to provide depth at the guard position. The 2015 Hopkins High School graduate helped to guide the Golden Rams to a 28-5 record, concluding with a fourth-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship. Ngom paced all scorers with an average of 15.5 points per game on an impressive 51.6 percentage from the floor. Also providing a threat from three-point range, Ngom connected on 43.2 percent of tries while averaging over one three-pointer made per contest. Ngom added a team-leading 6.9 rebounds per game on his way to being named to the All-Minnesota College Athletic Conference team.

23122A 6-foot-7 forward from Fargo Davies High School, Jake Paper will look to join UMD following a stellar senior season. Paper posted a 18 point-per-game average in the 2017 season while leading the Eagles to a fourth place finish in the North Dakota High School Activities Association Class A State Tournament. In addition to his scoring, Paper added 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks per game as a commanding force under the basket. Paper earned a spot on the NDHSAA Class A State Tournament first team.

23120A future 2017 Hayward High School graduate, Xavier Cummings announced his intent to join the Bulldogs. A 6-foot-1 guard, Cummings racked up over 1,500 points in his highly decorated high school career. Cummings averaged 28.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists while helping the Hurricanes to a 17-7 record in the 2016-17 season. The guard was named to the All-Heart O'North first team in his three consecutive seasons while being voted the conference player of the year his senior year. Cummings also earned a spot on the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 3 All-State team in 2016-17. In addition to basketball, Cummings was a standout in football and baseball, garnering All-Heart O'North first team selections in each. On the football field, Cummings was selected as the conference defensive player of the year while taking a All-Heart O'North first team spot on offense, defense, and special teams.

23123The 2017 UMD recruiting class is rounded out by Jordan High School's Jimmy Vollbrecht. The 6-foot-8 forward was named the Minnesota River Conference Most Valuable Player after averaging 24.0 points per game his senior season. On the glass, Vollbrecht added nine rebounds per contest along with two blocks. In his high school career, Vollbrecht notched over 1,400 points to become the second-leading scorer in Jordan High School history. Vollbrecht also holds the school record with 47 points scored in one game, a feat he accomplished during his junior season. Following the 2016-17 season, Vollbrecht was selected to participate in the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Series, an opportunity given to 40 senior basketball players around the state.

The four players will join a pair of incoming freshman that were added in the early signing period. UMD's class is comprised of two players from the state of Minnesota, three from Wisconsin, and one from North Dakota.
