Sidney Morin were two of 42 players invited to the 2017 U.S. Women's National Team Selection Camp that will run from April 30-May 4 at the Florida Hospital Center Ice in Tampa, Florida.
The camp, which will consist of daily practices, off-ice testing, and three intra-squad scrimmages, will be be used to determine the U.S. Women's National Team roster that will train together and participate in various competitions in the build-up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Rooney is just one week removed from her U.S National Team debut at the 2017 World Championship.  The Andover, Minn. native won a gold medal and earned a shutout on April 1 against the Russian National Team.  Rooney -- the youngest player on the U.S. squad at 19 year old -- player all 60 minutes, making 14 saves in her red, white and blue debut in the 7-0 win.  An All-WCHA Third Team selection, Rooney earned a bevy of league honors over the regular season, including the WCHA Defensive Player of the Month for November and March, in addition to four WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Rooney played the most minutes in the nation this past season, registering 2250:38 minutes for an NCAA-best 98.6% of the Bulldogs goaltending workload  Rooney finished fourth in the NCAA and second in the WCHA with a .942 saves percentage, and the 1013 saves she posted season ranked second in the nation, as well as second-most in a single season by a Bulldog netminder.
Morin, a product of Minnetonka, Minn., finished her senior campaign as a USCHO All-American and ranked seventh among all defensemen in the NCAA and second in the WCHA with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists in 37 games.  Named the WCHA's 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year, Morin also garnered Second Team All-WCHA honors after registering a career-high in points and power play goals, with a league-leading four from the backline.  Morin had two game-winning goals in addition to a WCHA-best 119 shots on goal.  In four seasons with UMD, Morin finished her career ranked the 7th highest scoring blueliner in history with 70 points, and owns nine goals -- the fifth-most by a defenseman -- and 51 assists that ranks her sixth all-time.  Morin has the UMD record for consecutive games played (147), she also now sits sixth in total games played over a career (147).
Morin, an alternate captain, was also a 2016-17 WCHA Scholar Athlete, as well as a 2016-17 WCHAÂ All-Academic Team member.
Rooney and Morin will join former Bulldog alum and forward Zoe Hickel, who has also been selected to participate in the U.S. National Team Selection Camp.
USA Hockey will unveil the players selected to the U.S. Women's National Team at the conclusion of the camp on May 5. The team will remain in Tampa for additional training through May 8.
