The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's hockey program today announced the hiring of Anthony Morando as their new strength and conditioning coach.
"I'm excited to welcome Anthony to the Bulldog hockey family," said Bulldog women's hockey head coach Maura Crowell. "He has an extensive background in strength and conditioning, specifically with hockey players at the highest levels, and his passion for coaching is second to none. He will make an immediate impact on our program."
"We are excited to have Anthony as part of the Bulldog staff, " added UMD head men's hockey coach Scott Sandelin. Â "He brings experience working with athletes at the highest level as well as great focus and passion."
Morando's resume is impressive, and most recently included a role as a performance manager at EXOS in Grand Forks, N.D., for two years, where he also coached athletes at the pinnacle of their sport.
"I'm excited for Anthony to be back in college hockey," said current U.S. National Team forward Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson. Â "I have been so fortunate to have Anthony as a coach for the last three years and can honestly say that he has changed the path of my career and lifted the level of my play on the international stage."
Prior to his time in Grand Forks, Morando was the head strength and conditioning coach at Boston University for the men's hockey and women's golf programs from March 2011 until May 2015. Â Morando managed and trained NHL and professional hockey players during summer months in addition to his BU athletes, and ran an annual pro-camp in August. Â He also spent time with the San Jose Sharks during their 2014 development camp.
"Anthony is one of the best strength and conditioning coaches I've ever been around," said BU head coach David Quinn. Â "He cares deeply about the student-athlete and takes pride in being knowledgeable in his field. It's a great hire by Duluth and I'm happy to see Anthony back in the college game."
Morando started his coaching career as a graduate assistant strength coach at Boston College from 2006-2008. Â At BC, Morando implemented training programs, nutrition and performance upgrades, as well as assisted with the special teams coach on game days for the Eagles.
A graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., Morando earned his B.S. Degee in applied exercise science in 2007. Â He is currently working on a M.S. Degree in kinesiology. Â
Morando is married to former University of North Dakota women's hockey standout and U.S National Team member Monique Lamoureux.
