FOUR-POINT NIGHTS FROM KRIEGER AND TUFTE FUELS NO. 15 UMD PAST COLORADO COLLEGE IN A NCHC SLUGFEST

Junior center Peter Krieger and sophomore left winger Riley Tufte each scored twice and assisted on two other goals to propel the University of Minnesota Duluth to a 6-5 National Collegiate Hockey Conference victory at Colorado College Friday night.

The four-point efforts were personal highs for both of the linemates and helped the No. 15 Bulldogs jack their overall record to 10-9-3 and move into a three-way tie in for sixth place (with Colorado College and the University of Nebraska Omaha) in the NCHC standings at 4-7-0-0. Krieger scored UMD's first (31 seconds after the opening faceoff) and final (the eventual game winner with 4:02 to go in the second period) goals of the evening while gaining a share of the top spot on the UMD scoring charts with rookie defenseman Scott Perunovich, who was credited with three assists.  Krieger also extended his scoring streak to a team-leading five games.

Tufte, who along with Perunovich, sophomore right winger Joey Anderson and rookie defenseman Mikey Anderson and Dylan Samberg, were just one week removed from completing their tours of duty with Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championships, potted his two goals in the second period. The second of those gave him a career-best 10 goals on the season, which leads all 2017-18 Bulldogs. Rookie left winger Kobe Roth (his first collegiate score) and senior center Jared Thomas each struck on the power play in the first period as UMD wound up going 3-for-6 with the man advantage.

Both teams put 31 shots on target and combined for six goals in the first 20 minutes of play before heading into the intermission deadlocked at 3-3.

Sophomore goaltender Hunter Shepard (10-7-1) earned the win in his 17th consecutive start and first-ever appearance against Colorado College.

UMD has now endured just one loss in its last 14 matchups with the Tigers (10-1-3) and is unbeaten (5-0-1) at the Broadmoor World Arena since falling  3-1 to Colorado College on Oct. 18, 2013.

The two long-time rivals will meet for the last time during the 2017-18 regular season on Saturday night.
