Sophomore forward
Brandon Myer was back to his usual self after a one-game hiatus. The Superior, Wis., native compiled a game-high 27 points and was downright dominant throughout. The reigning NSIC North Division Player of the Week went 11-of-18 from the field as he notched his ninth 20-plus scoring game. He also added eight rebounds.
The night belonged to Ngom, the Anoka-Ramsey C.C. transfer. Ngom bested his 13-point performance in the first game against the University of Minnesota Crookston. The Minneapolis, Minn., native finished 5-for-10 from the court and nailed a team-high three three-pointers. Ngom also collected six rebounds, a pair of assists and a block.
With the game tied at 28, the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to close the half then proceeded to use that momentum to go on a 11-3 run in the second to take a commanding 53-39 lead. UMD had the lead up to 16 with just over 10 minutes remaining before Upper Iowa started to march back. The Peacocks drilled five threes on their next six baskets to close the game to three. Each team traded buckets as the Bulldog lead bounced from 3-to-5 points until Ngom knocked down a shot from behind the arc to push it to six.
The UMD defense stood strong in the final minute. The Peacocks were denied any outside shot before a jumper put the game within one with 13 seconds left. Senior guard
Kyle Schalow secured the victory with a pair of free throws after getting fouled catching the ball at the half court line trying to break the press.
The Bulldogs, who will play their third game in four days, will return home at Romano Gymnasium on Monday to face off against the University of Wisconsin Superior at 12:00 p.m.
