BULLDOGS SKATE PAST ST. CLOUD WITH 2-1 WIN

The No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team ran its win streak to three games Saturday night with a 2-1 win over St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Bulldogs overpowered the Huskies with 41 shots on goal to SCSU's 16 in the game, and a 16-7 shot on goal advantage in the opening period translated into a 2-0 UMD lead.  Sophomore forward Anna Klein gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead just 57 seconds in the action.  Klein's goal was assisted by Jalyn Elmes and Ashton Bell -- Bell's fourth assist in her last three games.

UMD's second goal came on the power play, courtesy of rookie forward Anneke Linser at the 14:43 mark of the first period.  Elmes picked up her second assist on the night on the goal, and freshman Maggie Flaherty had the second helper on Linser's score.

The Bulldogs outshot SCSU 25-9 in the last two periods, but the Huskies found a way on the scoreboard at 7:44 of the third period, their lone goal of the night.

Freshman goaltender Emma Soderberg made 15 saves in her official UMD debut, while Janine Alder had 39 stops for the Huskies, who fall to 3-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play.

The Bulldogs (5-3-1, 3-3-1) will try and run their win streak to four-straight tomorrow afternoon in St. Cloud.  Puck is set to drop at 3:07 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES:  Ashton Bell has notched at least a point in her last four games (1g, 4a) ... Bell is now in a four-way tie for the Bulldog scoring lead with six points (2g, 4a) ... UMD held the Huskies scoreless in three power play attempts Saturday while going 1-of-2 with the extra skater ...
