Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

AND THE BEAT GOES ON FOR TOP-RANKED BULLDOGS

In perhaps its most dominating performance of the 2018-19 season, the University of Minnesota Duluth overpowered Colorado College 5-1 Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena and added another notch to the nation's longest active winning streak. The National Collegiate Hockey Conference triumph completed the fourth consecutive series sweep for the No. 1 Bulldogs -- something they haven't done since the 2003-04 season.

Sophomore right winger Nick Swaney scored twice while his linemate, junior left winger Riley Tufte, contributed three points to the Bulldog attack.  UMD, which improved to 8-1-1 overall and has now eight straight games, outshot the Tigers (4-5-1 and 0-4-0 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference) 38-16 on the night. That included a 20-3 advantage in the opening period when UMD jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Swaney and sophomore center Justin Richards, who also scored in Friday's 3-0 takedown of the Tigers.  Senior right winger Parker Mackay made it 3-0 just 26 seconds into the second period with his team-leading sixth goal of the season before Nick Hallaroon struck on the power play eight minutes later to finally break the ice for Colorado College. Swaney answered for UMD at the 12:59 mark of that same period and then Tufte's one-timer while UMD had the man advantage with 1:52 to go before the intermission concluded the night's scoring.

"I was really pleased with our game tonight," said UMD Head Coach Scott Sandelin.  "We talked about getting better in a few areas and I thought we did. it was a real good 60 minutes for our team and a real good weekend."

UMD will pay a visit to Denver, Colo., next Friday and Saturday night for a pair of NCHC bouts with the University of Denver.
