SHEPARD, BULLDOGS TAME TIGERS FOR SEVENTH WIN IN A ROW

Move over Alex Stalock, you now have some company.

Junior Hunter Shepard equaled the one-time All-American goaltender's program record for career shutouts by stopping all 19 shots Colorado College sent his way in a 3-0 victory Friday night at AMSOIL Arena.  The shutout was Shepard's ninth as a Bulldog -- and first of the 2018-19 season, matching the total Stalock amassed between 2006-09.

No. 1 UMD (7-1-1 overall) scored once each period in its National Collegiate Hockey Conference debut and outshot the Tigers (4-4-1; 0-3-0-0 NCHC) 32-19 on the night.  Sophomore center Justin Richards provided the Bulldogs with all the scoring they would need 8:17 after the opening faceoff when he redirected in a shot from the low slot for his second goal of the season. Junior defenseman Nick Wolff doubled the UMD lead at 7:31 of the second period with a snapshot from the left point which knifed its way through traffic and past Colorado College netminder Alex Leclerc.  Parker Mackay struck on the power play for his team-leading fifth goal of 2018-19 midway through the third period with both sophomore All-American defenseman Scott Perunovich and senior center Peter Krieger picking up their second assists of the evening.

The Bulldogs, who extended their nation-best winning streak to seven games, went 1-for-2 with the man advantage while Colorado College was 0-for-2.

"It was a fast-paced game and a quick one," said Head Coach Scott Sandelin, whose Bulldogs posted their 100th lifetime win over the Tigers.  "I wanted to make sure our guys weren't a half step behind from the bye week because CC can get up and go. I thought we were a little slow in the early going, but as the  night went on, we found our game a little bit."

The two teams will meet again Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
