It was quite a ride for the University of Minnesota Duluth but it came to a halt this afternoon. Traveling over 1,700 miles since the final weekend of the regular season, the Bulldogs ended their season in Sioux Falls, S.D., after falling 75-62 to Northern State University in the quarterfinal round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament. UMD finishes the season 12-18 while the No. 11 Wolves (29-3) move on to the semifinals to play Minnesota State University.
Junior forward
Sean Burns scored a collegiate high 20 points. Burns couldn't be guarded inside as he used his athleticism to create easy looks. The Minneapolis, Minn. native shot an efficient 10-for-16 and added a game-high 12 rebounds. Burns was active on the defensive end as well with three steals.
Sophomore foward
Brandon Myer had 14 points and senior forward
Jake Wilson had nine points to round out the top scorers. Wilson pulled down six rebounds to go along with his four field goals. Junior
Mamadou Ngom posted a season-tying four assists and five points.
Northern State was too much on the offensive end as it shot 50.9 percent for the game including nine threes. The Wolves went with a balanced attack with five players hitting at least 11 points including Gabe King leading the way with 18 points.
The Bulldogs traded baskets for a good chunk of the first half until the Wolves went on back-breaking 13-2 to go up by as much as 14 late in the first half. UMD was able to slice the deficit down to eight before the half. Northern State didn't waste any time as it outscored UMD 19-8 to start the second half to lead 58-39. The Bulldogs started to chip away at the lead and knocked it down to 13 but the clock ran out on the Bulldogs' hope of playing spoiler.

The Wolves were kings in the NSIC in offensive rebounding and rebounding margin and it reared its head. Northern State pounced on 13 offensive boards and collected 18 second-chance points compared to UMD's 10. The Wolves also relied on their conference-best three-point defense as the Bulldogs were 2-of-11 in that department.
Seniors
Kyle Schalow and Wilson played in their final games in a maroon-and-gold jersey. Schalow finished his four-year career with 480 points, 240 rebounds and 134 assists After five years on campus, Wilson capped off his playing days with 577 points, 208 rebounds and 58 assists.
