The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team was unable to continue its success to the start of its season after a 6-4 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan College Monday evening.
Â
The Bulldogs (3-1 overall) committed five errors, and the Bobcats (1-3) took full advantage of the mistakes. The team moves to 1-1 in Russmatt Central Florida Invite play.
Â
Just as it did against Lewis University, UMD was unable to put up a run until the fifth inning of the game. Unlike the game against the Flyers, the Bulldogs had several players reach third without being able to cross home plate before the fifth. UMD finally got on the board thanks to a two-run blast of the bat of sophomore center fielder Cory Krolikowski, his second home run in as many games to knot things up at two apiece in the top of the fifth. Krolikowski was one of the few brights as he had a career day by going 3-3 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.
Â
Junior right-hander Alex Ferguson worked to the tune of five innings, six hits, five strikeouts, two runs, and a pair of walks.
Â
The Bulldogs had a tough time against the Bobcats' relievers as their bullpen combined for 3.1 innings allowing just one hit, one run and five strikeouts.
Â
UMD will look to make it three-in-a-row as it takes on Ashland University at 12 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday (March 6). The Eagles (3-2) are 3-0 in Russmatt Central Florida Invite play.
