Wayne State College scored goals on its first two shots to fend off the University of Minnesota Duluth 2-0 on Sunday. The Bulldogs fired 17 shots with eight on goal but was blanked for third time in four games. The Wildcats made its attempts count as shots for Wayne State was few and far throughout the game as it registered only five shots in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match in Wayne, Neb.
Megan Phillips scored for the Wildcats (2-6-1; 2-4-1 NSIC) on a deflection in the 13th minute to put the Wildcats up 1-0. UMD (3-6-1; 2-4-1 NSIC) furiously tied to knot the game before the halftime whistle. The Bulldogs had three corner kicks and four shots in the last five minutes of the first half. Senior forward
Natalie St. Martin, who tallied the game winning goal against Augustana on Friday, had her shot deflected just wide of the post. Senior midfielder

Holly Kaboord had one shot trickled wide left and another saved by Wildcat goalkeeper Alyssa Bagley.
Wayne State tacked on another goal at the 56:33 mark. Christina Stasifound the back of the net on the Wildcats' second shot attempt of the game. Senior goalkeeper
Sisley Ng made one stop on a close range opportunity by Carleigh Wilson in the 65th minute. Wayne State as a team had three total shots on goal. Meanwhile, Kaboord and St. Martin each rifled three shots on goal for the Bulldogs.
The Wildcats came away with their first program win over the Bulldogs in 18 tries. UMD is 15-1-2 against Wayne State.
The Bulldogs return to the pitch next weekend at home. UMD starts its homestand with Northern State University Friday under the Malosky Stadium lights.Â
