BULLDOGS USE OFFENSIVE BARRAGE TO BEST BEAVERS

The University of Minnesota Duluth shot a season high 51.8 percent and scored a season high 79 points in the 28-point victory over Minot State University on Saturday at Romano Gymnasium. The Beavers (6-10; 1-9 NSIC) dropped both games in the season series and have lost six of their last eight to the Bulldogs after falling 79-51.

The potent offense pushed the Bulldogs (9-4) to their fifth straight home Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the season and now stand in sole possession of second place in the North Division with an 8-2 conference record. The 8-2 start is the best conference start for UMD since starting 10-2 in the NSIC during the 2002-03 season.

The Bulldogs got progressively better from the floor in each quarter. UMD shot 41.7 in the first 10 minutes and finished the last 10 knocking down 66.7 percent. The Bulldogs also produced team-highs in made field goals (29), made three-pointers (12) and assists (27). Eleven different players notched points on the scoreboard for UMD with senior guard Emma Boehm leading the way for all scorers with 15 points. Sophomore forward Sarah Grow and sophomore Payton Kahl each chipped in 10 points.

The Bulldogs assisted on 27 of their 29 buckets with senior guard Sammy Kozlowski handing out a game high eight assists, tying a season high. Freshman guard Maesyn Thiesen registered a career high six assists coming off the bench. Boehm also tied her collegiate high with five assists. Along with the high offensive production was the contribution from the bench. The Bulldogs mounted 32 of their 79 points from their rotational players. 

Minot State shot an even 40 percent from the field but struggled for three-point range. The Beavers connected on only 5 of their 23 three-point shots. Mariah Payne led Minot State with 13 points while Kari Clements was the only other Beavers to reach double figures.

UMD takes on Minnesota State University Mankato on Friday, Jan. 18 at Mankato, Minn.
