The University of Minnesota Duluth drop a tightly contested match on Sunday afternoon, 1-0, to Wayne State at Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minn. The Bulldogs now carry a 3-6-0 record (1-5-0 in the NSIC) on the season.

The game started off slow with both sides not giving eachother much to work with and went into halftime still deadlocked. However, the Bulldogs came out of halftime putting shots on net, a few coming from corner kicks.

Senior forward Logan Nash led the Bulldogs with three shots, sophomore defender Megan Vante, junior forward Holly Kaboord, and freshman forward Tiana DeGrande all had two shots. Â

The Bulldogs did have a chance to take a lead in the 89th minute, with DeGrande taking a shot inside the box with Wildcats goalkeeper Rachel Grisham out of position. DeGrande had her shot saved by the Wildcats defense, and the ball was cleared from the box.

Overtime started off with a quick three shots from UMD, but their chances ran out after Wayne State forward Abby Sutton put in the game winner from a cross that came from forward Rylie Wehner inside the box, and beat sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Grenz on the short side. \

Grenz finished the match with four total saves. UMD finished the match with 12 shots (eight on net), the Wildcats finished with eight shots (six on net).

The Bulldogs will travel on Friday, October 6 to play Northern State in Aberdeen, SD.
