BULLDOGS BEST MINOT STATE IN COLD BATTLE

The University of Minnesota Duluth took on Minot State on a chilly afternoon on Sunday. The Bulldogs bested the Beavers in a tight battle, 1-0. UMD improves to 6-9-2 overall (4-8-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) on the year. Minot State falls to 3-13-0 (3-10-0 in the NSIC).

The Beavers would start the shooting on the afternoon, with the first shot coming in the 2nd minute. The two teams would trade shots, with the Bulldogs putting up three more shots for the first half. UMD would finish the half with eight shots, four of them hitting the net. Minot State would finish with five shots, just three making their way to sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Grenz, who managed to stop them all.

The second half saw more action, starting from the UMD side, with the Bulldogs putting up four shots in just two minutes to start the second. It wouldn't take longer than 12 mintues after the flurry of shots for UMD to break through, with freshman midfielder Sarah Stange ripping a shot from the left side of the net, beating Minot State goalkeeper Erin Rafferty short side and the Bulldogs taking a 1-0 lead that would stand the rest of the game. Stange scored on a pass coming from freshman forward Tiana DeGrande, who received a pass from senior forward Nan Glinsek.

The Bulldogs would finish the afternoon totaling 21 shots, 13 of them would be on net. Freshamn forward Erin Walpole would finish with two shots on the afternoon, just one hitting the net. Degrande would finish with one shot, finding its way to the goal front. Stange would finish with two shots, one finding the back of the net. Junior forward Holly Kaboord would finish the day with four shots, three of them finding their way to the net. Senior forward Nan Glinsek would finish with one assist, putting four shots on and two on net. Minot State totaled nine shots on the day, with seven of them being on net. Grenz would finish with the shutout, totaling seven saves on the day.

The Bulldogs finish out their regular season at Malosky Statdium on Friday, Nov. 8, playing host to St. Cloud State during Senior day at 3 PM.
