The University of Minnesota Duluth's women's basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin Superior 82-45. That ended their second and last exhibition game before the regular season starts this Friday.
UMD finished the night shooting 56.1% FG, 40.9% from beyond the arc and held UWS to 26% FG and 20% for 3-pointers.
UMD jumped out to an early 19-9 lead, putting up four 3-pointers in the first quarter. They continued their dominance in the second quarter by throwing a half court trap at the Yellow Jackets, which lead to two steals for freshman guard Ani Tschida. That translated into an easy transition two for the Bulldogs. They finished the first half shooting 55% and held UWS to just 22% from the floor.
The Bulldogs came into the second half picking up where they left off in the first, forcing eight turnovers which lead to 24 points in the third quarter and only allowed UWS to score 10. The fourth saw a similar story, with UMD scoring 19 in the final frame, while the YellowJackets put up 17.
Sophomore guard Maesyn Thiesen lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points and also added five assists. Senior guard Katie Stark had a game high nine rebounds. Junior forward Sarah Grow had a game high two blocks and freshman guard Taytum Rhoades had five assists and a game high three steals.
The Bulldogs will kick off the regular season in St. Joseph, Missouri, against Fort Hays State on November 8th. That will be the first of two games that are apart of the NSIC/MIAA crossover event.
