The No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth picked up it's 23rd win of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking care of (RV) Minnesota State in 3 sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-11). The Bulldogs improve to 23-3 on the year (16-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) while the Mavericks drop to 16-10 overall (9-9 in the NSIC).
UMD finished the afternoon with a .319 hitting clip, blocking six along the way. MSU would finish with a total of five blocks, hitting a .183 clip for the afternoon.
The Mavericks would score the first point of the afternoon, with the Bulldogs following suite, adding one to that total, taking a two one lead. After the teams would go back and forth, UMD would go on a seven point run and take an 11-6 lead. The Bulldogs would keep the pressure on, dropping in sets of two points to the Mavericks one point rallies at a time, until UMD would beat MSU in the opening frame, 25-18.
In the second, MSU would again score first and drop in two to open things up. The two squads would go back and forth, trading points, with both sides dropping a set of two before the Bulldogs would drop in three to take a 16-13 lead on the Mavericks. MSU would put own four of their own and retake the lead at 17-16. The teams would go back to trading points before UMD would find three and take a 22-20 lead. MSU scored two to get back into the mix. UMD would drop down a 3-1 rally to take the set, 25-23.
The Bulldogs switched things up and opened the third set with a 3-1 rally. The Mavericks would put two in and tie things up, just before UMD would strike four to the floor and go up 7-4. The Bulldogs didn't look back after that point on, keeping their foot on the gas and allowing MSU to score only seven more times from there on. UMD would two three point stretches and one eight point stretch to finish out the final set, 25-11 and complete the sweep.

Emily Balts would dish 42, digging four and gaining two kills. Senior right side hitter
Hanna Meyer finished with eight kills, blocking three and digging two. Senior middle blocker
Abby Thor finished with a match high 13 kills, digging two and blocking four while swinging at a .619 clip.
The Bulldogs will take to the road next weekend, taking on the Upper Iowas Peacocks (Nov. 15) and finishing out the NSIC regular season schedule at Winona State (Nov. 16).
