The Bulldogs rolled into Mankato with a hefty task at hand, taking on the No. 2 Mavericks. UMD was up to the challenge. It would take two overtimes to decide the match.

MSU started off fast, putting pressure on early with two chances. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sophia Grenz was put to the test early and often, with one save coming from inside the box when Brynn Desens had a chance seven minutes into the game. Grenz came up huge again when Jenny Vetter was able to break away from the Bulldogs defense. Grenz was able to make a diving save keeping the score even.

It wasn't long before the Mavericks were able to strike on a break up the middle on a shot by Desens with a pass from Dakota Wendell in the 12
th minute. MSU was able to put up five shots before they scored. UMD would respond quickly, scoring less than a minute later. Senior midfielder
Emily Hinz potted her fifth of the year off of a block from a free kick from junior forward
Holly Kaboord. The Mavericks would continue to put pressure on Grenz and the Bulldogs for the rest of the half. Grenz finished the first half with four saves, and UMD was able to put one shot on net (two shots in total), resulting in a goal.

The second half started with more of the same. MSU was able to put up two shots up in the first five minutes of the second half, with Grenz making two saves including a diving stop. The Mavericks continued to mount the pressure, but UMD was ready for the task. MSU was able to put seven shots on net in the 2
nd half, with Grenz turning them all away. The Bulldogs were able to put two more shots on net in the second half. The score was 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

UMD kicked off overtime, the ball would find its' way down to the Bulldogs half with UMD committing a foul right outside the box. The Bulldogs were able to block the ball out and shift down to the Mavericks end. Play was back and forth during the overtime, with MSU putting up one shot on goal and UMD with none.

The Mavericks would kick off overtime 2, and play saw more back and forth. The Bulldogs would get a free kick near midfield, MSU was able to defend the opportunity. The Mavericks were able to catch a break, with a chip from Wendell making it past the UMD defense right to Vetter who was able to push one past Grenz. MSU would win 2-1.

Grenz was able to finish the match with 12 saves. Hinz would score her fifth of the year on one shot in the match. Kaboord would finish with two shots (one on goal). Senior defender
Maddie Milbrath would put one shot on goal as well.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday to face off against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears at 1 PM in St. Paul, Minn.
