HINZ'S TWO GOALS NOT ENOUGH TO PUSH BULLDOGS PAST HUSKIES IN TWO OVERTIMES

Senior midfielder Emily Hinz scored both tallies for UMD in the first half of the Bulldogs heartbreaking loss to Michigan Tech University on Sunday in two overtimes. UMD evens its' record to 1-1 to start the 2019 year.

The Bulldogs had numbers in their shots, outshooting the Huskies 12-6 in the first half and 18-10 throughout the match. Nine different UMD players had shots, with junior forward Kara Pascarella recording a game-high of four shots.

All but one goal in the match was scored in the first 45 minutes, and UMD was the first on the board, but could not find the back of the net after the first half.

The first goal came when a ball was floated in the air into MTU's end, when Gracie Vanlangevelde couldn't coral the ball and it popped out to Hinz, who was waiting in front of the Huskies goal. Hinz took a shot that was stopped by a Huskies defender but came right back to Hinz who had hammered it home.

MTU went on to score two straight. Once in the 13th minute, and again three minutes later in the 16th minute. Less than 10 minutes after the Huskies second goal, Hinz found herself with another rebound goal, with a shot coming from senior forward Nan Glinsek and Hinz ready to hammer the rebound home in the 24th.

No goals were scored in the ensuing 77 minutes, though plenty of chances were had by the Bulldogs. The Huskies Grace Shaw was able to find the back of the net in the second overtime, receiving a pass that narrowly got by sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Grenz.

Grenz started her second career game for UMD, making two saves in the contest.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 12 to take on No. 2 University of Bridgeport in a non-conference match up, the first time the teams will be meeting in both schools' history.
