11-GAME WINNING STREAK COMES TO AND END FOR BULLDOGS IN LOSS AT MARY

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team had their 11-game win streak come to an end, falling to the University of Mary Marauders 76-67. The Bulldogs now carry an 11-4 record while going 8-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while the Marauders are now 12-7 while 6-3 in the NSIC.
 
The Bulldogs would shoot 51.9% (28-54) from the floor, going 38.5% (5-13) from beyond the arc, grabbing 25 rebounds and nine steals. The Marauders would shoot 47.7% (31-65) from the floor and 16.7% (2-12) from beyond the arc, grabbing 35 rebounds and 10 steals.
 
The Marauders would kick off the scoring with a quick two to open things up. After UMary had scored the first three baskets and had a 7-0 lead, junior guard Payton Kahl would put in a two to get the Bulldogs on the board. Sophomore forward Brooke Olson would drop a 3-pointer to pull UMD to within four. Olson would drop another 3-pointer just a minute later, Bulldogs trailing 13-10. UMary would find three baskets in a row to take a 10-point lead. Junior forward Sarah Grow would break up the run with a 2-pointer of her own. Sophomore guard Maesyn Thiesen would sink a layup of her own to pull the Bulldogs to within six at 14-20 before Kahl would score a layup and draw a foul, scoring that to complete the 3-point play. The first quarter would end with UMD trailing by one at 19-20. Senior forward Katie Stark would drop a 3-pointer to give UMD their first lead of the evening at 22-20. Stark would score a short jumper just a minute later to put the Bulldogs up 24-23. After a foul was called on Grow, UMary would grab a one point lead at 25-24. The Marauders would score another basket to go up 27-24 before Olson would drop a 2-pointer to pull within one, junior guard Ann Simonet would drop her first points of the game, with both her and Olson putting up two baskets a pop to put the Bulldogs up 32-27 with 4:15 left in the half. After two baskets from the Marauders, freshman guard Taytum Rhoades would score her first points of the contest off of a pair of free throws. Simonet would score another two points before UMary would score a two of their own to close out the half, UMD leading 37-35.
 
The Marauders opened up scoring in the third with a quick two to pull within two. The Marauders would take the lead with four straight points going up 43-41. After the teams would battle for possession, UMary would score again to take a four point 45-41. Stark would score two, with the Marauders scoring two to respond. The Bulldogs would trail 55-50 to close out the third quarter. After UMary opened the scoring in the fourth with a two, Grow would drop a two to follow. The Bulldogs trailed 62-54 with 6:01 left in the fourth quarter. Grow would score a layup going into a media timeout with 4:49 remaining. The Marauders would gain an eight point lead with a quick two out of the timeout, forcing the Bulldogs to call a timeout with 3:51 remaining. Rhoades would score a layup and draw a foul, scoring to complete the 3-point play. UMary would score another two to go before another timeout with 2:11 remaining, the Marauders up 66-57. Stark would drop a 3-pointer out of the timeout. UMary would call a timeout with 1:50 remaining. The teams would trade points before the Bulldogs would call another timeout. The Marauders were able to score two quick points out of the timeout to take an 8-point lead before scoing another two off of free throws, leading 72-62. Kahl would respond with a quick 3-pointer in attempt to come back but a foul would be called in Grow giving UMary another set of throws, sinking both for a 74-65 lead. The Bulldogs would fall in the 76-67.
 
Rhoades would grab seven points on the evening. Thiesen would shoot 3-7 with six points, grabbing two rebounds. Grow would score six, grabbing eight rebounds. Kahl would score 14 with three rebounds, three steals and a block. Olson would score 18 with four rebounds, two steals, shoot 8-15 and nail two 3-pointers. Stark would score 10 with two 3-pointers, grabbing three rebounds and go 4-5 on field goals. Simonet dropped six points with two rebounds and six assists with a steal.
 
The Bulldogs travel to Minot, ND to take on the Minot State University Beavers tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 PM.
