The University of Minnesota Duluth womens basketball program swept the weekend with a 67-57 win over the Upper Iowa University Peacocks on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs are now 17-5 on the year while going 14-2 against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents. The Peacocks are now 3-19 on the year and 2-13 against NSIC opponents.

UMD shot 40.7% (24-59) from the floor, grabbing 38 rebounds with five blocks and six steals. UIU would shoot 37.9% (22-58) from the floor while grabbing 34 rebounds with two blocks and steals each.

The Peacocks won the opening tipoff, but sophomore guard
Maesyn Thiesen would score the first points of the game, making a short jumper for the lead. Sophomore forward
Brooke Olson would drain two free throws after taking to the line, giving UMD a 4-0 to start the game. The Bulldogs would take a 10-6 lead into the first media timeout of the game. Junior forward
Payton Kahl would sink two free throws out of the timeout but UIU would respond with a layup. Junior forward
Sarah Grow would score a layup but again the Peacocks would score a short jumper. UIU would slowly chip into the lead headed into the second quarter, with the Bulldogs ahead 14-12 after the first. UMD would score first in the second, but UIU would follow with a layup and one on a foul. The Peacocks would take their first lead of the game with 8:20 left in the quarter off of a layup, 17-16. Katie Stark would drain a deep 3-pointer to retake the lead. Olson would score a layup in tight, drawing a foul in the process and making the extra point. The Bulldogs would take a 27-22 lead into the media timeout of the second quarter. Senior guard
Taylor Schneider would score a layup out of the timeout and follow that with a free throw by drawing a foul, completing the 3-point play. UIU would take a timeout with 2:24 left in the quarter, UMD ahead 30-24. The Peacocks would drain a 3-pointer but junior guard
Ann Simonet would respond with a layup of her own. The Bulldogs would head into the half leading the Peacocks 34-29.

Schneider would open scoring in the second half with a jumper in tight. Olson would extend the UMD lead with a layup, the Bulldogs grabbing a 38-29 lead to start the half. UMD would make a short jumper leading into a UIU timeout with 7:10 left in the quarter. Olson would score out of the timeout with a jumper. The Peacocks would chip away at the lead, making a basket with a foul and completing the 3-point play. After the teams traded baskets, UMD would take a 46-37 lead into a media timeout. UIU would make a layup and draw a foul on the play, making the basket to chip even more at the lead. Grow would respond with a layup of her own. The Bulldogs would take a 57-44 lead into the fourth quarter. UIU would take the first points of the quarter with a quick layup and a foul on the playing, making the free throw for the 3-point play. The Peacocks would score a layup to follow and cut the lead to eight points with 7:30 remaining. UIU would score another layup. UMD would take a 59-51 lead into the media timeout. Taytum Rhoades would make a layup, forcing UIU to call a timeout with 3:28 left. Scoring would go quiet for the next minute and change before Rhoades scored a layup and drew a foul, scoring the basket. The Peacocks would score a short jumper in response. The Bulldogs would hold strong and take the victory over UIU 67-57.

Olson finished with 13 points, grabbing six rebounds, three assists and going 5-9 from the floor. Schneider finished with 12 points, grabbing four rebounds, assisting on one and stealing two. Grow would score 11 on the night, going 4-8 from the floor with one assist, three blocks and one steal. Simonet would score eight with five rebounds and three assists. Thiesen would score eight as well, grabbing six rebounds with two assists.
