BULLDOGS SPLIT RARE NSIC TENNIS DOUBLEHEADER

The University of Minnesota Duluth took part in a rare Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Saturday at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center in Sartell, Minn., opening the day with a 5-2 triumph over the University of Sioux Falls before falling 7-0 to the 10-time defending NSIC champion Augustana University.

The Bulldogs are now 6-2 overall and 4-2 in NSIC play.

Against Sioux Falls, UMD picked up the doubles point by winning 6-2  at both No. 1 (junior Natalie Cahill and sophomore Sophie Lynch) and No. 3 (freshman Emily Rahrik and sophomore Sarah Will). Lynch (in a three-set tiebreaker at No. 2) and Cahill (6-0 and 6-1 at No. 3) also won at singles while freshman Mallory Lithun (No. 5) and junior Isabel Thiner (No. 6) also prevailed in straight sets.

Augustana's victory over the Bulldogs was its 115th straight in NSIC play.

UMD will pay a visit to Bismarck, N.D., next weeked for NSIC matches with the University of Mary (Feb. 29) and Minnesota State University-Moorhead (March 1).
