KOEPKE, PERUNOVICH LEAD UMD PAST COLORADO COLLEGE

The University of Minnesota Duluth has enjoyed a substantial amount of success against Colorado College -- particularly on the Tigers' home ice -- in recent years and that trend continued Friday night.

The No. 5 Bulldogs got a goal and an assist from sophomore left-winger Cole Koepke and All-American junior defenseman Scott Perunovich. A key go-ahead score from junior defenseman Dylan Samberg helped take down Colorado College 4-2 in the front end of a two-game National Collegiate Hockey Conference series. UMD, which never trailed the entire night, is now unbeaten in nine of its last 10 visits to Colorado Springs, Colo., and is 17-2-3 against the Tigers going back to Oct. 19, 2013.

The Bulldogs (19-10-2 overall; 14-5-2 NCHC) struck early Friday night when Koepke fired a shot from the top of the right circle off of a face-off 3:38 into the game. Koepke was assisted by junior center Justin Richards. UMD scored again, almost ten minutes later with 6:52 remaining in the first period when sophomore forward Tanner Laderoute found a loose puck off of another face-off in front of the net and beat Andrew Gaus to put the Bulldogs up by two goals. It only took Colorado College (11-18-2 overall; 4-15-2-1 NCHC) two minutes to answer when Chris Wilkie picked a loose puck in the neutral zone, fired a shot in between two Bulldog defenders and beat senior goaltender Hunter Shepard. Wilkie's goal came with 4:52 left in the first period and cut the Bulldog advantage to 2-1. UMD outshot Colorado 21-8 in the first period along with 12 shots on goal compared to 8 from CC.

With 6:38 remaining in the second period, Andrew Gaus circled around the ice and let a shot go from just inside the blue line that found it's way past Shepard to knot the game up at two goals apiece. A game misconduct penalty from Wilkie, which led to his ejection, with 3:18 remaining in the period gave the Bulldogs a five-minute power play. It only took a minute for Samberg to notch his first goal of the season. Samberg's one-timer, with an assist from Perunovich, came from the top of the right circle and reclaimed a one-goal lead that UMD would take into the second intermission.

Both teams skated to a scoreless third period until Perunovich fired a shot from the UMD goal, across the ice and cashed in on the empty Colorado College net. Perunovich's goal sealed UMD's 10th road victory of the season and third win in three tries over the Tigers.
