The University of Minnesota Duluth needed a bounce-victory Sunday afternoon and that's exactly what the Bulldogs got as they downed Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Upper Iowa University 4-3 at the Winona (Minn.) TennisCenter.
The Bulldogs, who had dropped a 7-0 decision to Winona State University one day earlier in their 2020 NSIC opener, won all three doubles matches to pick up one point and then prevailed in straight sets at No. 4 (freshman
Emily Rahrik), No. 5 (
Mallory Lithun) and No. 6 (junior
Isabel Thiner) singles to defeat Upper Iowa for the third consecutive year.
Junior
Natalie Cahill and sophomore
Sophie Lynch (No. 1), Thiner and senior team captain
Megan Anderson (No. 2) and Lithun and senior team captain
Elsa Erickson (No. 3) all delivered doubles wins for UMD, which improved to 3-1 on the year.
Next up for the Bulldogs is NSIC home matches with Minnesota State University-Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State University this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 15-16) at the Duluth Indoor Tennis Center.
