SOCCER WELCOMES WAYNE STATE, AUGUSTANA TO MALOSKY STADIUM FOR WEEKEND SERIES

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team will play at home for the first time in three weeks this weekend, kicking off against Wayne State on Friday before matching up with Augustana on Sunday as the team celebrates Parents Day.

The Bulldogs come into this weekend's series with a 2-10-1 record overall and 2-7-1 in the NSIC. The team saw its two wins come back-to-back in road victories against University of Minnesota Crookston and Concordia-St. Paul earlier this month. The team currently sits 14th in the NSIC standings.

Wayne State is currently eighth in the conference with a 4-6-3 overall record and 4-4-2 conference record. The Wildcats are 2-1-2 in their last five games, with wins against Southwest Minnesota State and University of Mary. In the last matchup between the Bulldogs and Wildcats, it was Wayne State who came away with the 1-0 victory. Since 2013, UMD is 5-2 against the Wildcats, who have only won once at Malosky in that time.

Augustana, currently the fourth-ranked team in the conference with a 7-1-2 record (8-3-2 overall) is currently riding a five-game win streak. The Bulldogs are 3-5-1 against the Vikings since 2013, with Augustana getting the most recent victory in 2019.

The Vikings currently lead the conference in shots with an average of 19.39 shots per game with an average of 10.46 on goal. Augustana is third in the conference with an average of 2/385 goals per game.

Jackie Jares, Emilia McGiffert, and Anna Tobias all lead the team with two goals scored apiece. Lauren Singstock has assisted on five goals so far this season, also a team high. With her one goal, she has seven points so far.

Both games this weekend feature a Kicks for Causes initiative. Friday will feature the Environmental Initiative, a non-profit organization focused on social equity and environmental health. The Initiative was chosen by senior goalkeeper Sophia Grenz.

On Sunday, fans are encouraged to bring food donation items for Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, the organization chosen by senior Mandy Conkel. There will be tables near the entrance for fans to drop off non-perishable food donations. We will also spotlight Special Olympics, as chosen by Kirsten Dagel.

Kickoff against Wayne State on Friday evening will be at 6:00pm at Malosky Stadium. Sunday's game is set for 12:00pm.
