The University of Minnesota Duluth men's/women's track & field teams posted an impressive start to their 2021-22 indoor season on Saturday afternoon at the College of St. Scholastica Opener in Duluth. Across both teams, the Bulldogs notched sixteen first-place finishes on the day. Minnesota Duluth, St. Scholastica, Wisconsin-Superior, Northwestern (Minn.), and St. Catherine (Minn.) all competed on Saturday in Duluth.
The Bulldogs shined in the field on Saturday, noting nine top-finishes across the long jump, pole vault, triple jump, and throws. In the women's long jump,
Jacqi Rae took first spot with a distance of 5.18 meters, while
Avery Hunt won the men's long jump competition with a distance of 6.51 meters. A height of 3.05 meters earned
Eden Worden a first-place finish in the women's pole vault, while
Shea Alto used a height of 4.20 meters to take first-place in the men's pole vault.
Bryn London was able to post a height of 1.58 meters in the women's high jump, giving him first-place on the leaderboard. The Bulldogs swept the triple jump after both
Mathew Caines and
Emily Jones took first-place in their respective divisions.
Colton Kostynick, an NSIC preseason athlete to watch for UMD, inked a first-place finish in men's shot put with a distance of 16.09 meters. Kostynick also landed first on the leaderboard in men's weight throw, after marking a distance of 16.08 meters.
In the running events,
Bryn London took home first-place in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.86 seconds, while Megan Giles noted a second-place finish in the event with a time of 9.90 seconds. In the women's 600-meter run,
Savannah Schley tallied a time of 1:38.00 to grab first-place. The Bulldogs swept the board in the women's one mile run, where
Josie Bond,
Alexandra Bragg, and Eve Anderson finished first, second, and third respectfully. Bonds posted a time of 5:12.58 to take first-place in that event. In addition to her performance in the field, Rae noted a first-place finish in the women's 200 meter dash, posting a time of 26.93. For the men, a time of 51.94 gave
Alex Kulzer the top finish in the men's 400-meter dash, while
Alexander Croston took home second place with a finish of 52.60.
