Reno, Nev. – The No. 12/17 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Wednesday night in a exhibition. After a highly competitive first half, the Wolf Pack pulled away in the second half to win 98-62.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball to start the game. With 15:46 left in the first half, the Bulldogs took an early 8-7 lead thanks to a layup from
Charlie Katona. From there, the Wolf Pack went on a 14-0 run to take an 21-8 advantage. The Bulldogs responded by going on a run of their own by going on a 11-2 run to bring the deficit to just 23-19 with 10:06 left in the first half. Both teams continued to battle and trade points as the Bulldogs got it to a 32-30 deficit with 4:37 left in the first half. The Wolf Pack responded by finishing the half strong and extending their lead to 47-35 at half. The Bulldogs were led by
Charlie Katona who had 13 first half points followed by
Joshua Brown who had 10 points. The Bulldogs shot 15-40 (37.5%) from the field and 5-17 (29.4%) from three-point range. The Wolf Pack were led by Grant Sherfield who had 15 first half points, while Desmond Cambridge Jr. added 11 points. The Wolf Pack shot 16-32 (50%) from the field and 6-11 (54.5%) from three-point range in the first half.
In the second half, both teams came out of half time by trading baskets to begin the half. The Bulldogs were able to keep it within striking distance within the first 5 minutes of the half as they trailed 60-46 with 15:24 left in the first half. From there, the Wolf Pack began to pull away. They once again went on another run as they went on a 13-0 run to blow the game open and take a 78-48 lead with 9:27 left in the game. From there, the Bulldogs were unable to climb out of the deficit through the remainder of the game. The Wolf Pack went on to win the game 98-62.
The Bulldogs were led by
Charlie Katona who had 15 points on the night while
Drew Blair added 14 points. Katona also led the team with 8 rebounds on the night.
Joshua Brown and
Jack Middleton led the team with 3 assists each on the night. Blair also added 3 steals on the night while
Lincoln Meister and
Charlie Katona both had 2 blocks. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 25-72 (34.7%) from the field and 10-33 (30.3%) from three-point range. They also shot 2-6 from the foul line.
The Wolf Pack were led by Grant Sherfield who had 28 points on the night, while Desmond Cambridge Jr. added 25 points. Sherfield led the team with 12 rebounds while Kenan Blackshear added 11 rebounds for a double-double's on the night. Sherfield led the team with 9 assists on the night. Overall, Nevada shot 35-68 (51.5%) from the field and 10-24 (41.7%) from three-point range. They also shot 18-24 (75%) from the foul line.
Who's Next:
The Bulldogs will resume NSIC play as they travel to face off against Northern State on Friday December 17 at 5:30 PM. They will then travel to face off against MSU Moorhead on Saturday December 18 at 3:30 PM. These will be the Bulldogs last games of the 2021 calendar year before a two-week hiatus.
