Moorhead, Minn. – The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs defense held the Dragons to just 27.4% from the field as they won 54-37. With the win, the Bulldogs extend their win streak to 6 games.
In the first quarter, both teams came out firing on the offensive end. Teams exchanged baskets until
Sarah Grow tied the game up after a layup. From there, the teams kept trading baskets. After a
Maesyn Thiesen layup to give the Bulldogs the lead in the first quarter, the Bulldogs held the Dragons the rest of the quarter as they took a 14-13 lead into the second quarter. The Bulldogs shot 6-11 (54.6%) from the field and 1-3 (33.3%) from three-point range. They also shot 1-2 from the foul line. The Dragons shot 6-17 (35.3%) from the field and 0-6 from three-point range.
In the second quarter, teams continued to trade baskets to start the quarter. Neither team could pull away as teams were tied up at 19-19 with 4:55 left in the half. From there, teams once again traded baskets until the Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run to end the half and take a 28-23 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs shot 6-14 (42.9%) from the field and 2-5 (40%) from three-point range. The Dragons shot 5-16 (31.3%) from the field and 0-5 from three-point range.
The Bulldogs defense dominated the second half. The Bulldogs strong defense allowed the Bulldogs to build up to a 14-point lead. The Dragons could not get anything going on in the quarter as they scored just 7 points in the third quarter.
Payton Kahl capped off a strong quarter for the Bulldogs with a layup to give the Bulldogs a 44-30 lead going into the fourth quarter. UMD shot 8-11 (72.7%) from the field in the quarter. The Dragons shot 3-11 (27.3%) from the field and 0-3 from three-point range.
The Bulldogs defense dominated the quarter again as the Dragons once again could not get into a rhythm. The Bulldogs once again took advantage of this and built their lead to as many as 20 points in the quarter. The Bulldogs held on to their lead as they won the game 54-37 to extend their win streak to 6 games. The Bulldogs shot 4-10 (40%) from the field and 2-6 (33.3%) from three-point range in the quarter. The Dragons shot 3-18 (16.7%) from the field and 0-3 from three-point range.
The Bulldogs were led by
Brooke Olson who had 13 points on the night.
Ann Simonet added 11 points while
Sarah Grow added 10 points. Grow led the team with 6 rebounds on the night.
Maesyn Thiesen and
Taytum Rhoades both added 4 assists on the night to lead the Bulldogs. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 24-46 (52.2%) from the field and 5-14 (35.7%) from three-point range. They shot just 1-2 from the foul line on the night.
The Dragons were led by Peyton Boom who had 17 points on the night. Aliyah Miler led the team with 6 rebounds on the night while Natalie Steichen added 5 assists on the night. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 17-62 (27.4%) on the night and 0-17 from three-point range. They also shot 3-6 from the foul line.
