MEN'S BASKETBALL IMPROVES TO 8-0, BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY

Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face the Bemidji State Beavers. The Bulldogs controlled the majority of the game as they went on to win the game 87-64. The Bulldogs improve to 8-0 (2-0) on the season. The 8-0 start to the season is the Bulldogs best start in program history.
 
The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs continued their hot start to the season as they jumped out to a quick 25-8 lead over the Beavers with 11:53 left in the first half. The Bulldogs did not look back as they maintained a double-digit lead for the remaining of the first half. The Bulldogs took a 16-point lead into halftime as they led 43-27. The Bulldogs shot 16-34 (47%) from the field in the first half while also shooting 6-14 (42.9%) from three-point range. They also shot 5-9 (55.6%) from the foul line. The Beavers struggled from the field in the first half as they shot 9-25 (36%) from the field and shot 3-10 (30%) from three-point range. They also shot 6-11 (54.5%) from the foul line.
 
In the second half, both teams came out battling as teams traded baskets to begin the half. The Beavers managed to get the lead down to 7 points with 14:08 left in the second half. From there, the Bulldogs took control once again as they went on a 17-4 run to take a 70-50 lead with 9:09 left in the second half. From there, the Bulldogs maintained control as they did not allow the Beavers to get back into the game. UMD went on to win the game 87-64. The Bulldogs were led by Drew Blair who had 23 points on the night. Austin Andrews and Joshua Brown both added 16 points on the night while Jacob Shields added 12 points off the bench on a perfect shooting night. Andrews led the team with 15 rebounds and had 5 assists while he also had 2 steals. Joshua Strong also added 8 points and 2 steals off the bench for the Bulldogs. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 35-68 (51.5%) from the field and 10-25 (40%) from the three-point line. They also shot 7-12 (58.3%) from the free throw line.
 
The Beavers were led by former Bulldog John Sutherland who had 16 points on the night. Derek Thompson led the Beavers with 8 rebounds while Mohamed Kone led the team with 6 assists. Overall, the Beavers shot 23-54 (42.6%) from the field and 6-17 (35.3%) from three-point range. They also shot 12-19 (63.2%) from the foul line.
