The University of Minnesota Duluth Baseball team traveled to Aberdeen, South Dakota to meet the Northern State Wolves in a mid-week NSIC double-header. Today's matchup marks the third and fourth times that the Bulldogs and Wolves have met in the 2021 campaign as the two met at U.S. Bank Stadium in what was the season opener for the Bulldogs. UMD would drop game one of today's double-header 7-2 and beat the wolves 9-8 in game two. Following today's action the Bulldogs now sit at 9-18 overall and 6-15 in the NSIC.

The Wolves would strike first in game one as they swatted a solo homerun off UMD pitcher
Mitchell Waletzki in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Alex Wattermann brought the the Bulldogs back even in the top of the second with an RBI double that careened off the right center field wall and scored
Brodie Paulson. The Wolves would tack on three runs in the bottom of the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth and proved to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. The other lone bright spot for UMD was
Trevor Gustafson's RBI single in the fourth inning, which again scored Paulson. The Wolves pitching staff was able to hold the Bulldogs to just four hits over the course of game one.
Mitchell Waletzki was credited with the loss for UMD, Brian Baker was credited with the win for NSU.

Game two was a wild ride between the Bulldogs and the Wolves.
Aaron Wukmir towed the slab for the Bulldogs and pitched well going five full innings; Wukmir only surrendered one earned run, and two walks while striking out five during his outing. UMD took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning following a
Jack Puder RBI groundout and an NSU error which allowed a run to score. The Wolves would come right back and tie things 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning. The Bulldogs would then rattle off six unanswered runs scoring two in the third off of
Tim Pokornowski's and Alex Watterman's RBI singles, three in the fifth off of a
Brodie Paulson RBI single and a
Henry George 2RBI single and one in the eighth off of another
Henry George RBI single. With an 8-2, lead headed into the bottom of the 8
th inning things would go off the rails for UMD. Northern State would come all the way back from six down to tie the ball game at eight a piece. Captain
Henry George would deliver what would prove to be the knockout punch as he doubled home
Jack Puder in the top of the ninth to bring us to our final score of 9-8.
Alex Wattermann came in for the Bulldogs to shut the door on the Wolves and secure the game for UMD, he was credited with the save the first of the season for him.
Liam Blaschko was credited with the win for the Bulldogs he moves to 3-1 on the season.

On deck for the Bulldogs is another road trip, this time to the state of North Dakota as they head to the University of Mary for a three game NSIC weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 and 3:30 on Saturday with a Noon start time on Sunday.Â
