Game Recap: Baseball |

BULLDOGS END ON TOP OF WILD GAME TWO, EARN SPLIT OF SATURDAY DOUBLE-HEADER

For the second consecutive weekend, the University of Minnesota Duluth Baseball team would take on the University of Mary Marauders. This weekend the two would meet in Bismarck, North Dakota as last weekend's matchup took place in Duluth. The Bulldogs were shut out by the Marauders in game one, but got the better of UMary in the second game as they grabbed a split on the day with a 13-9 win. The Bulldogs record now sits at 10-19 (7-16) in the NSIC.

In game one, Ben Shepard was on the bump for the Bulldogs, which saw the University of Mary grab an early lead and never look back. The Marauders would score three runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning, one run in the third and three in the sixth to take game one handedly by a score of 10-0. Shepard would go two innings for the Bulldogs surrendering six runs on seven hits. Shepard would be charged with the loss moving his record to 2-4 on the season. Mason Thiel and Braden Farley would both come on in relief over the course of the seven inning game one. The Marauder pitching staff stymied the Bulldog offense in game one. UMD was only able to produce one hit in the contest, and were only able to amass two total base runners.

Game two took on a very different narrative from game one. This time UMD took a commanding lead early. The Bulldogs would score four runs in the first courtesy of an Anders Brown 3-run tank over the left field fence and a Tosten Mann RBI single. UMD would follow up the first inning with a five run second inning thanks to a McCale Peterson 2RBI single, Dayo Lawal's fielder's choice, and Tosten Mann's second RBI single of the day. The Marauders however would not lie down as they scored seven runs of their own combined in the third and fourth innings to reign things back in at 9-7 through four full. The Bulldogs would eventually get the insurance runs they were looking for to seal things in the top of the eighth inning. An Alex Wattermann RBI single, Trevor Gustafson fielder's choice, and an UMary wild pitch to stretch the lead to 13-8. UMary would get one back in the bottom half but would get no closer to erasing the Bulldog lead as the game finished 13-9 in favor of UMD. Wyatt O'Bey started on the mound for the Bulldogs pitching 3.1 innings, and surrendering five earned runs. O'Bey had a hefty cushion though and recorded his first win of the season moving his record to (1-2) on the season. Paul Petit and Liam Blaschko both came on in relief in the latter stages of game two.
