Today the University of Minnesota Duluth Baseball team welcomed the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs to Wade Stadium in Duluth for a mid-week NSIC double-header. The Bulldogs were victorious in both games of today's double-header 5-1 in game one and 6-5 in game two. With the two wins, UMD now sits at 12-20 and (9-17) in the NSIC.

In game one
Mitchell Waletzki was on the bump for the Bulldogs. Waletzki put together an impressive outing on the mound for UMD pitching five complete innings, only surrendering four hits, and two walks while striking out four Mustang hitters. UMD jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as
Brandt Kolpack and
Anders Brown both knocked in runs to give UMD the 2-0 lead.
Trevor Gustafson added to the Bulldog lead in the bottom of the second as he cranked a moonshot that just stayed fair down the left field line for his second homerun of the season, the two run shot brought home
Alex Wattermann for two RBI's and a 4-0 UMD lead.
Tim Pokornowski would add an insurance run on a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. The Mustangs would score a run via a sacrifice fly in the top of the 6
th but would get no closer than that as this one finished up 5-1.
Paul Petit would come in relief of Waletzki and pitch two innings to close things out. Waletzki would earn his second win of the season moving his record to 2-5.

Game two saw both teams exchange leads in what was a back and forth game. UMD jumped out to an early lead courtesy of a
Tim Pokornowski 2-run homerun to left field. SMSU would then score four runs in the second inning and tack on a fifth run in the third inning to pull ahead of the Bulldogs 5-2. The Bulldogs would start to chip away at the Mustang lead in the bottom of the third, as a
McCale Peterson sacrifice fly would bring the Mustang advantage to only two runs. A
Henry George RBI single and
Brandt Kolpack sacrifice fly would knot the game at five in the bottom of the fourth. UMD would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning as they grabbed a run from yet another sacrifice fly, this time off the bat of
Alex Wattermann which gave UMD its 6-5 lead.
Aaron Wukmir started the game for the Bulldogs but the pitching credit goes to the Bulldog bullpen as
Eric Hinnenkamp,
Mason Thiel, and
Liam Blaschko all came in and pitched 2.0 innings of one hit, walk free baseball to slam the door on the Mustangs after the third inning. Hinnenkamp is credited with his first win of the season and Blaschko records his second save of the year.

Next up for the Bulldogs are the Minot State Beavers, as the Beavers travel to Duluth for a three game NSIC weekend series. First pitch of Saturday's double-header is set for 1:30 and 3:30 PM from Bulldog Park on the UMD campus.
