The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team will welcome the University of Sioux Falls Cougars and Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs to Malosky Stadium this weekend for Alumni Weekend.
UMD will host Sioux Falls on Friday at 6pm. The Bulldogs hold an overall record of 7-0-1 against USF, and will look to continue their winning ways against the Cougars this weekend. In their last matchup in 2019, UMD won by a margin of 3-1. The Bulldogs are still searching for their first win of the season.
Sioux Falls has had a tough start to their season, coming into this weekend's game with a 1-6 record on the season. Their only win of the season has come against Winona State, who defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 3-0 this past weekend. The Cougars come to Duluth carrying a three-game losing streak.
The Bulldogs will square off against Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday, October 3 at 12pm. UMD holds an overall record of 24-5-0 against the Mustangs, with the last game between the two squads in 2019 ending with an SMSU victory in double overtime.
SMSU is 1-5 so far this season, recording their only win of the season in a September 3 non-conference game against Black Hills State.
Sunday will mark the culmination of this year's annual Alumni Weekend celebration. At Sunday's match, the team will recognize three members of its Class of 2020, whose senior season was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Programming throughout the weekend will honor former Bulldogs and their legacy within the program.
Two different organizations will be highlighted this weekend as part of the team's Kicks for Causes campaign.
On Friday, Brooke Scheuble, Julia Osborne, and Holly Kaboord will be accepting monetary donations for the American Cancer Society. The trio "chose the American Cancer Society because we admire the work that they do and their dedication to trying to research solutions to the ongoing battles with cancer."
Sunday's Kicks for Causes is CASDA, the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse, located in Superior, Wis.. The organization was chosen by Hannah Caldwell, who chose the organization "because it is important to bring awareness to domestic violence and its prevalence in our area." The team will be accepting donations for CASDA at both Friday and Sunday's matches, since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A list of requested items can be found here.
