The #13 ranked University of Minnesota Duluth women's cross country team finished second at the Lewis Crossover on Saturday morning. The UMD men's cross country team turned in a strong 12th place finish, seeing five Bulldogs finish in the top 100.
UMD was led by
Cailee Peterson who finished fourth overall with a time of 21:19.9 (personal best). The other top 10 finisher was junior
Maddie Verkerke (6th place) (21:33.8) (personal best). Junior
Julia Nielsen (19th place) (22:13.7) and senior
Morgan Radel (22nd place) (22:26.0) crossed the line next for UMD. Rounding out the top seven for the Bulldogs were freshman Elizabeth Van Loon (41st place) (22:53.5) (personal best), sophomore
Lauryn Renier (51st place) (23:06.9), and sophomore
Savannah Schley (52nd place) (23:06.9) (personal best).
"The women fought super hard today against national-caliber competition. I'm super proud of their hard work and efforts along with the strides we are making together each meet," said head men's and women's cross country coach
Brette Jensen.
The UMD Bulldog men turned in a 12th place performance (second overall NSIC team). The Bulldogs top five runners all crossed the finish line in the top 100 during the 8K race. UMD also saw a day of personal bests in the 8K, with all runners finishing with collegiate personal best marks.
The UMD men were led by junior
Lucas Selman who finished in 54th place with a time of (25:05.7 - personal best) and sophomore
Nick Jacobson who finished in 66th place with a time of 25:14.0 (personal best). The next trio of Bulldogs all finished inside the top 100 --
Owen Dickenson (68th - 25:15.0 - personal best),
Austin Antony (94th - 25:43.2 - personal best) and
Jack Van Kempen (96th - 25:45.4 - personal best). The next pair of Bulldogs crossed the finish line in 140th and 155th place -- freshman
Isaac Martel (26:39.2 - personal best) and sophomore
Finn Youberg (26:52.3). Rounding out the performances for UMD were sophomore
Mikey Kvaal (27:05.5 - personal best), freshman
Nathaniel Brandt (27:23.5 - personal best), and Zack Anderson (27:40.7 - personal best).
"The men worked very well together today and it showed with our tight spread. They were aggressive from the start and executed very well as the race progressed," said head men's and women's cross country coach
