NO. 6 MEN'S BASKETBALL CAN'T OVERCOME POOR SHOOTING NIGHT ON THE ROAD

Bismarck, ND – The No. 6 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the University of Mary Marauders. The Bulldogs could not overcome a poor shooting night and lost their third game of the season 75-71.
 
The Bulldogs started the game hot from the floor as they jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first half. The Bulldogs continued their hot start as they extended their lead to 11-4 thanks to a Joshua Brown three-pointer. Mary fought back however as they battled back to tie the game up at 11-11 with 15:09 remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs responded to the Marauders run with a Charlie Katona three-pointer to take a 14-11 lead. Teams proceeded to trade baskets out of the first media timeout as neither team could pull away. The Marauders went on to hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a 25-16 first half lead. The Marauders continued their hot run as they held on to a double-digit lead with 6:52 remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs continued to struggle down the stretch as they could not find a rhythm on the offensive end of the floor. A Charlie Katona dunk cut the Bulldogs deficit down to 39-28 with 3:00 minutes remaining in the half. Drew Blair followed that up with a fast break layup to get the deficit back to under 10 points with 2:07 remaining in the half. The Marauders once again responded with a short run to get their lead back up to 15 points as they led 45-30 with 1:28 remaining. The Bulldogs could not cut their deficit down the stretch as they trailed 45-32 at halftime. The Bulldogs shot 11-33 (33.3%) from the field and 3-16 (18.8%) from three-point range. The Marauders shot 18-33 (54.5%) from the field and 7-16 (43.8%) from three-point range.
 
The Bulldogs started the second half off hot as they got a Charlie Katona three-pointer to start the half. From there, Jack Middleton took over as he scored on three-straight possessions, including two three-pointers to cut the Bulldogs deficit down to 5 points as they trailed 45-40 with 18:22 remaining in the second half. The Bulldogs continued their strong second half start as they got their deficit down to 2 points as they trailed 47-45. An Austin Andrews layup and free-throw and free throw gave the Bulldogs their first lead since they led 16-13 with 13:13 in the first half. From there, the Bulldogs hot start continued as they built up to a 59-49 lead with 11:38 remaining in the half. The Marauders quickly responded to the Bulldogs run as they quickly got the Bulldogs lead down to just two points with 8:20 remaining. Down the stretch, teams battled and traded baskets as neither team could pull ahead. The Marauders tied up the game 67-67 with 2:51 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs took a 71-67 lead with 1:06 remaining in the game. The Marauders responded with a quick three-point play to get the deficit down to one point. The Bulldogs missed a shot on their next possession as the Marauders hit a three-pointer on their next possession to take a 73-71 lead with :22 seconds remaining. The bulldogs came back down with 20 seconds remaining and Jack Middleton turned the ball over as he attempted to call a timeout. From there, the Marauders would close out the Bulldogs as the Bulldogs lost 75-71. The Bulldogs shot 15-31 (48.4%) from the field and 6-17 (35.3%) from three-point range. The Marauders shot 11-27 (40.7%) from the field and 5-11 (45.5%) from three-point range in the second half.
 
The Bulldogs had 5 players in double figures on the night. They were led by Austin Andrews who had 16 points on the night. Jack Middleton added 15 points as Joshua Brown and Drew Blair both tallied 14 points on the night. Charlie Katona also added 12 points. Andrews and Katona both added 8 rebounds on the night as Middleton led the team with 4 assists on the night. Blair also added 5 steals on the night for the Bulldogs. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 26-64 (40.6%) on the night and 9-33 (27.3%) from three-point range. They also shot 10-14 from the foul line.
 
The Marauders were led by Kai Huntsberry who had 19 points on the night. Huntsberry also led the team with 7 rebounds on the night. Overall, the Marauders shot 29-60 (48.3%) from the field and 12-27 (44.4%) from three-point range. They also shot 5-7 from the foul line.

The Bulldogs will remain on the road tomorrow as they travel to face Minot State at 5:30 PM.
