NO. 6 BULLDOGS STRUGGLE FROM THE OFFENSIVE END AS THEY LOSE TO BEAVERS

Minot, ND – No. 6 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the Minot State Beavers on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs struggled from the field once again as they lost 80-63.
 
The Bulldogs struggled from the offensive end of the floor as they scored just one basket in the first 5 minutes of action. The Beavers managed to take advantage of the Bulldogs struggles as they jumped out to an early 9-3 lead at the first media timeout. Coming out of the media timeout, the Bulldogs offense slowly began to heat up as they were able to cut into the Beavers lead. A Joshua Brown three-pointer cut the Beavers lead down to 9 points as the Bulldogs trailed 23-14 with 8:25 remaining in the first half. The Beavers responded by going on a 7-0 run to take a 30-16 lead with 7:00 minutes remaining. From there, teams went on to trade baskets as the Bulldogs could not get anything going on the offensive end to cut into the Beavers deficit. A layup Drew Blair and Austin Andrews got the Bulldogs deficit down to 12 points as they trailed 34-22 with 1:36 remaining in the first half. Teams traded baskets down the stretch as the Beavers took a 38-25 halftime lead. The Bulldogs struggled from the field as they shot 10-30 (33.3%) from the field and 1-11 (9.1%) from three-point range. The Beavers shot 15-31 (48.4%) from the field and 5-10 (50%) from three-point range in the first half.
 
Charlie Katona started the second half strong for the Bulldogs as he drew a charge to start the half and then hit a layup on the offensive end. Teams traded baskets as the Beavers managed to build up to a 44-27 lead over the Bulldogs with 17:26 remaining in the half. After a Austin Andrews layup, the Bevers responded with a three-pointer to extend their lead to 18 points. After a Joshua Brown three-pointer and a pair of layups from Austin Andrews and Charlie Katona, the Bulldogs got their deficit down to 13 points. Austin Andrews followed it up with a jumper to get the deficit down to 10 points. A Jacob Shields layup got the Bulldogs down to within 10 points. Teams went on to trade baskets as the Beavers maintained a 57-47 lead with 10:01 remaining in the first half. From there, teams once again traded baskets before the Beavers began to pull ahead once again as a Beers layup gave them a 66-51 lead with 6:00 minutes remaining. The Bulldogs continued to struggle from the offensive end as they could not get anything going down the stretch. The Beavers got their lead up to 17 points with just under 4 minutes remaining. From there, the Beavers continued to control the game as they went on to beat the Bulldogs 80-63.
 
The Bulldogs were led by Austin Andrews who had 22 points on the night. Joshua Brown added 16 points on the night as well. Andrews tallied 12 rebounds on the night for another double-double on the season. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 23-56 (41.1%) from the field and 3-24 (12.5%) from three-point range. They also shot 14-23 from the foul line.
 
The Beavers were led by Kody Dwyer who had 18 points on the night. Eli Cave led the team with 8 rebounds while Max Cody added 5 assists. Overall, the Beavers shot 27-60 (45%) from the field and 8-17 (47.1%) from three-point range. They also shot 18-22 from the foul line.
 
Who's Next:
The Bulldogs will be back at home next Thursday as they will host Bemidji State at 7:30 PM. They will then travel to face off against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at 5:30 PM for their season finale.
