Mankato, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Duluth men's track and field team take home eighth place at the NSIC Indoor Championships on Saturday on Mankato. Out of 11 schools, the Bulldogs tallied 26 points as a team to finish eighth overall.
"We had almost every men's team member on the roster competing in the conference meet and they showed up across the board this weekend," said Head Coach
Karly Brautigam. "We asked a lot from this group and we had a group of team member scoring in multiple events - that takes guts and commitment to the team. We have a lot to look forward to outdoors!"
In the men's 800 meter run,
Christian Leonard noted a third place podium finish with his time of 1:54.20. One of the best performances of the weekend for UMD came from the distance medley group of
Braydon Kubat,
Alex Kulzer,
Cole Fechner, and
Christian Leonard. The group posted a time of 10:16.49 to take third place in the event and get the Bulldogs five points on the team leaderboard. In the field,
Colton Kostynick took home fifth place in the men's shot put with a distance of 15.74 meters. In the men's high jump, freshman
Luke Oberleitner posted a PR height of 1.95 meters. Also in the field,
Kyle Kucera's mark of 4.03m was good enough for fifth place on the individual leaderboard in the men's pole vault. Additionally,
Nick Jacobson posted multiple top ten finishes on the weekend. In the men's 3000 meter run, Jacobson finished eighth after tallying a time of 8:25.48. In the 5000 meter run, Jacobson's mark of 14:50.53 was good enough for seventh overall.
