A total of six current and former University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players hit Olympic ice Saturday, but it was current goaltender
Emma Soderberg and defenseman
Ashton Bell that owned the stat lines.
In the first game of the day at Wukesong Sport Centre, Canada, with current UMD defenseman
Ashton Bell and former All-American Jocelyne Larocque, routed Finland 11-1. Both Bell

and Larcoque got on the scoresheet, with Bell adding assists. Larocque had the primary assist at 14:27 of the second period on a goal that put Canada up 5-1. Bell had two secondary assists midway through the third period, one at 7:06 to make it a 8-1 game and the second one came at 14:10 to stretch Canada's lead to 10-1. Bell now has a goal and three assists in her first two Olympic games for four points in addition to a plus/minus rating of +3.

Over in the National Indoor Stadium, Soderberg bested her previous Olympic-career high from Sweden's first game by turning in a 43 save performance. The Bulldogs senior netminder faced 46 shots in the game against the Czech Republic and former UMD forward Katerina Mrazova, but Sweden's offense again stumbled, falling 3-1. Â
"We didn't perform the full 60 minutes," admitted captain and former Bulldog Michelle Lowenhielm. "We didn't trust ourselves and believe in ourselves the full game. We cannot win games like that. The Czechs are a good team."
Through the tournaments first two days of games, Soderberg ranks second among all goaltenders with 80 saves.
The final game at the Wukesong Sport Centre featuring Team USA (
Maddie Rooney did not dress Saturday) and the Russia Olympic Committee with former UMD forward Alexandra Vafina, Team USA shutout ROC 5-0.
In Sunday's scheduled games,
Kassy Betinol and Jessica Wong of China will take on Japan, while Lara Stalder and Switzerland will face
Maddie Rooney and the United States.
