Two games were played Sunday night in Beijing, China, with current University of Minnesota Duluth junior forward
Kassy Betinol and former defenseman convert Jessica Wong having defeated Japan in a shootout, and UMD goaltending coach
Maddie Rooney and the United States having downed former Bulldog All-American Lara Stalder of Switzerland 7-0 in the late game.
For the first time all tournament, UMD players did not notch a point, but Wong racked a day high 35:37 minutes of ice time -- more than other player in either of the two games, and posted five shots.
Rooney served as back-up against the Swiss and Stalder was held without a goal for the first time in these Olympic games.
There will be plenty of Bulldogs back in action Monday in Beijing, starting with Canada and UMD blueliners
Ashton Bell and Jocelyne Larocque against the Russian Olympic Committee and Alexandra Vafina. Katerina Mrazova and the Czech Republic will play Denmark, while current Bulldog netminder
Emma Soderberg, who is having an incredible tournament so far between the pipes for Sweden, will face Betinol and Wong. Stalder and the Swiss will again hit the ice against Finland.
