St. Charles, MO. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs faced off against the Lindenwood Lions on Thursday afternoon for a double-header. The Bulldogs would lose both games as the Lions won the first game 7-2 and then won the second game 13-4.
Game 1:
After a scoreless first inning, the Lions got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning. After a double brought in a run, the Lions pulled off a double steal to bring in another run. They would also single in another run in the inning to take a 3-0 lead after 2 innings. The Lions added to their lead in the 3rd inning as they singled in yet another run. The Lions continued their strong offensive play as they added two more runs in the 5th inning off of a single and a triple to make it a 7-0 Lions lead. The Bulldogs managed to get on the board in the top of the 6th inning as
Brodie Paulson doubled to center field to bring in
Alex Wattermann.
Jack Puder followed that up with a triple to right center to bring in Paulson. The Bulldogs were not able to make a late game rally as they lost game one 7-2.
Brandt Kolpack,
Brodie Paulson and
Jack Puder all went 2-3 on the day, with Paulson and Puder driving in the only Bulldogs runs. Kolpack also added a stolen base.
The Lions' Ryan O'Connell went a complete game to earn the win.
Game 2:
Tosten Mann got the Bulldogs going in the top of the first inning with a home run to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Lions, however, answered in the top of the first inning after a single brought in a run to tie it up at 1-1. From there, a sacrifice fly brought in another run, and a triple brought in another as the Lions took a 3-1 lead. The Bulldogs got back on the board in the top of the second as a
Brandt Kolpack sacrifice fly brought in
Sam Tanner to make it a 3-2 game. The Lions once again responded in the top of the second as a pair of singles, a walk, and a double brought in 4 second inning runs to make it a 7-4 Lions lead.
Jack Nemetz went on to double to right center to bring in
Sam Tanner and
Jack Puder to cut the Bulldog deficit to 7-4. From there however, the Bulldogs struggled as they went scoreless the remainder of the game. As for the Lions, their bats stayed hot as they scored another two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth, and then 3 runs in the sixth inning as they went on to win 13-4.
Jack Puder went 2-5 with a run in game two.
Jack Nemetz went 1-3 with two RBI's and a walk.
Tosten Mann and
Brandt Kolpack both added one RBI as well.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday for another double-header against Lindenwood. First game starts at 11:00 AM.
