Duluth, Minn. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs faced off against the Winona State Warriors for games two and three of their three-game series.
Alex Wattermann came up big in both games as he tallied the game winning RBI in game one to win 5-4 and also stayed hot in game two as he went 3-4 in game two and tallied the save en route to a 6-4 win.
Game One:
The Warriors got things going early in game one as they managed to put up three runs in the first inning off of a double to left center and then a two run home run. The Warriors also went on to add another run in the top of the 3rd as they took a 4-0 lead. From there, the Bulldogs starter,
Isaac Benesh regained control of the game as he did not allow a run and only allowed two hits in the last 3.2 innings of game one. The Bulldogs offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth as
Trevor Gustafson scored
Austin Gordon on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Tim Pokornowski followe dthat up with a RBI single that scored
Brandt Kolpack.
Brodie Paulson also contribute with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored
Tosten Mann to cut the Warriors lead to 4-3. The Bulldogs rallied late in the bottom of the 7th inning as
Brodie Paulson drove in another run with a single to right center that scored
Ben Reilley. With bases loaded,
Alex Wattermann stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Wattermann delivered with a RBI single to walk it off for the Bulldogs as they went on to win 5-4.
Tosten Mann went 2-3 on the day with 2 runs, while
Brodie Paulson went 2-2 with two RBI's and a walk.
Austin Gordon also went 2-3 on the day with a double and a walk. The Bulldogs were active on the bases as well as
Brandt Kolpack,
Tosten Mann,
Tim Pokornowski,
Brodie Paulson, and
Austin Gordon all tallied a stolen base.
Isaac Benesh went 6.2 innings and tallied 8 strikeouts and just one walk. He also allowed 6 hits and 4 earned runs.
Zach Kuseske picked up the win in 0.1 innings of relief work.
Game two:
The Bulldogs stayed hot in the bottom of the first inning as
Tim Pokornowski scored
Brandt Kolpack on a fielders choice to the short stop.
Brodie Paulson added another sacrifice fly on the day as he scored
Tim Pokornowski. The Warriors responded with a two-RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs answered once again as
Brandt Kolpack scored
Jack Puder on a single up the middle to take a 3-2 lead. The Warriors once again answered in the top of the 6th inning as they scored twice off of a bases loaded walk and on a fielders choice with bases loaded to take a 4-3 lead.
Jack Puder came up big in the bottom of the 6th inning as he hit a two-RBI signle that scored
Alex Wattermann and
Trevor Gustafson to take a 5-4 lead.
Ben Reilley came in for the Bulldogs to pitch and was able to control the game as he went 3.0 innings and did not allow a hit as he tallied 3 strikeouts.
Ethan Cole added an insurance run in the bottom of the 7th inning as he scored
Brandt Kolpack on a single to left field.
Alex Wattermann stepped up to the mound in the top of the 9th inning and after getting a groud ball out, he struck out back-to-back batters to close out the Warriors and secure the 6-4 win for the Bulldogs.
Alex Wattermann continued his big day as he went 3-4 with two doubles on the day and scored a run. Wattermann also secured his 4th save of the season.
Brandt Kolpack went 2-3 on the day with a RBI and two runs. Tyler Gustafson and
Jack Puder both went 2-4 on the day with a run, while Puder also had 2 RBI.
Chad Fox started for the Bulldogs and went 4.2 innings while striking out 4 batters and allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
Who's Next:
The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow as they will host Wayne State for a doubleheader. The first game will start at 9:00 AM at Wade Stadium.
