Wayne, Neb. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs faced off against the Mary Marauders in a double header on Saturday afternoon. After losing game one 6-3, the Bulldogs late rally attempt fell short as they went on to lose game two 6-5.
Game One:
The Bulldogs got the scoring going in the top of the first inning as
Tim Pokornowski singled to third base and scored
Brandt Kolpack and
Tosten Mann scored on a error by the Marauders to take a early 2-0 lead. The Marauders responded in the bottom of the inning as they scored on a single through the left side. They then answered that with a three-run home run to make it a 4-2 Marauder lead. The bulldogs scored again in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a
Tosten Mann single up the middle to score
Brandt Kolpack to get it to a 4-3 deficit. The Marauders answered with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored two runs off of a single up the middle. The Marauders went on to win 6-3.
Brandt Kolpack went 2-4 on the day with two runs, while
Tim Pokornowski went 2-3 with a RBI.
Tosten Mann aslo added a RBI in the game.
Ben Shepard got the start for the Bulldogs and went 4.2 innings and gave up 7 hits and 6 earned runs.
Ben Reilley came into the game in relief and gae up just 2 hits over 1.1 innings. Austin Wagner got the win for the Marauders and tallied 15 strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Game Two:
The Marauders got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as they hit a two-run home run to left field. They continued the scoring in the 2nd inning as they scored on a sacrifice fly to left field to make it a 3-0 Mary lead. The Marauders scored again in the fourth inning as they scored two runs on a two-RBI double to left center, and followed that up with a single down the left field line to make it a 6-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a
Alex Wattermann single to right center field to score
Trevor Gustafson.
Brodie Paulson continued his hot hitting as he hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the 8th inning to cut it to a 6-2 deficit. The Bulldogs attempted a 9th inning rally as
Tim Pokornowski doubled to left center and drove in
Trevor Gustafson and
Jack Nemetz.
Brodie Paulson followed that up with another extra base hit as he double to left field to score
Tim Pokornowski to make it a 6-5 Marauder lead. The Bulldogs could not tie it up however as they went on to lose the game 6-5.
Trevor Gustafson went 3-4 on the day with two runs and a walk.
Brodie Paulson continued his power stretch as he went 2-3 with two RBI's and a run on a double and a home run.
Alex Wattermann and
Brandt Kolpack also both went 2-5 on the day.
Tim Pokornowski also added 2 RBI's in the game.
Chad Fox got the start for the Bulldogs and gave up 6 eanred runs and over 4.0 innings. He also had 5 strikeouts.
Eli Drexler and
Mason Thiel combined for 4.0 innings of relief work while allowing just 1 hit. They did give up 6 walks while striking out 3.

The Bulldogs will be back in action this week as they host Minnesota Crookston in a doubleheader on Thursday at Wade Stadium.
