Mankato, MN -- The Minnesota Duluth Baseball team traveled to faced the Minnesota State Mavericks on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader. The Bulldogs struggled to get the bats going as they lost game one 18-0 and lost game two 13-1.
Game One:
The Mavericks got the scoring started in the first inning thanks to a single to left center. They added to their score as they tallied a home run in the top of the 2nd and 3rd innings. They also added another run in the third thanks to a single up the middle. The Bulldogs tallied their only hit of the game in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a single from
Jack Puder. From that point on, the Mavericks dominated the rest of the way. They added another three runs in the fourth inning thanks to a home run and a run scoring on a error. The Mavericks added another home run once again in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 9-0 in the top of the fifth. The Mavericks capped off the game by exploiding for 9 runs in the 7th inning, including a grand slam to make it a 18-0 game.
Game two:
The Mavericks bats stayed hot in game two as they started the game with three first inning home runs to jump out to a 5-0 lead. From there, the Bulldogs managed to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a
Tosten Mann single to right field. The Mavericks responed with a run in the fourth off of a single to center field. They continued their hot hitting in the 6th inning as they added three runs off of a single and another home run. The Mavericks continued their hot hitting in the 7th inning as they added four runs in the 7th as they went on to win 13-1 in 7 innings.
