Duluth, Minn. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the Northern State Wolves on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs were able to bounce back and get back into the win column as they won game one 6-2 and won game two 5-2.
Game One:Â
The Bulldogs got the scoring started early in the first inning as
Tim Pokornowski hit a single through the right side to score
Brandt Kolpack. The Bulldogs continued their strong start as
Trevor Gustafson hit a bases clearing double down the left field line as
Brandt Kolpack,
Austin Gordon, and
Jack Puder scored.
Brodie Paulson added to the Bulldogs strong start as
Brodie Paulson hit yet another double to left field that scored
Tim Pokornowski and
Trevor Gustafson to make it a 6-0 lead. Ben Sheppard had a strong start for the Bulldogs as he went 6.0 innings and allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 6 batters and allowing 2 unearned runs. The Wolves managed to get on the board in the bottom of the 6th inning as they scored a pair of runs off of a Bulldog error. The Bulldogs managed to hang on to their lead as they went on to win 6-2.
Brandt Kolpack went 2-3 on the day while also scoring two runs.
Brodie Paulson continued his hot streak as he went 2-4 on the day with two RBI's and a double.
Trevor Gustafson went 1-2 on the day with 3 RBI's, a run and two walks.
Zach Kuseske pitched a spotless relief inning as he did not allow a hit or walk and struck out a batter in 1.0 innings pitched. Ben Sheppard picked up his second win on the season while Brian Baker picked up the loss for the Wolves.Â
Game Two:Â
The Bulldogs got the scoring started in the top of the second inning thanks to a
Alex Wattermann single through the right side that scored
Brodie Paulson. The Bulldogs offense exploded in the top of the third inning as
Tosten Mann hit a double to right center field to score
Brandt Kolpack. Trever Gustafson followed that up with a single to left center to score Mann. After
Tim Pokornowski stole second base, Gustafson scored on a Wolves error. Alex Watterman followed that up with another RBI as he doubled to right field to score Pokornowski to take a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning as
Brodie Paulson hit a three-run home run to right center field to expand their lead to 8-0. Paulson continued his hot hitting as he drove in another run on a single through the right side in the top of the 6th inning.Â
Chad Fox got the start for the Bulldogs and pitched 5.0 scoreless innings before the Wolves finally got on the pboard as they scored on a single into right field, followed by a pair of home runs as they cut the Bulldogs lead to 9-4. The Bulldogs answered in the top of the 7th inning as
Brandt Kolpack hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored
Jack Puder. In the top of the 8th inning,
Brodie Paulson drove in yet another run thanks to a single up th emiddle that scored
Trevor Gustafson.
Jack Puder followed that up but driving in a run on a fielders choice. Ethan cole then drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Bulldogs a 13-4 lead. The Wolves managed to score three runs in the bottom of the 9th inning but proved to be too late as they Bulldogs went on to win game two, 13-7.Â
Brodie Paulson had another big day as he went 4-5 with a home run, double, 5 RBI's and scored 3 runs.
Tim Pokornowski also had a big day as he went 4-5 with 4 runs.
Alex Wattermann also drove in a pair of runs.
Chad Fox got his first win of the season after going 6.0 innings and allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, he also struck out 2 batters. Seth Brewer picked up the loss for the Wolves after he went 4.0 innings.Â
Brodie Paulson has continued his hot performance as of late as he has registered at least one RBI in his last 12 of 13 games, including 22 total RBI's in those 13 games. He has also hit 14 extra base hits (11 doubles, 3 home runs) over his last 9 games. Paulson's batting average has also risen from .247 to .336 during his run.
