Brandon, SD -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs faced the Winona State Warriors on Friday evening. The Bulldogs took an early lead and didn't look back as they won 7-1 to advance to the next round, where they will face Minot State.
Austin Gordon got the scoring started for the Bulldogs as he hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the second inning. The Warriors scored their only run of the game on a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Tim Pokornowski singled to third base as
Austin Gordon scored.
Brodie Paulson then singled to left field to score two runners as
Trevor Gustafson and
Tosten Mann scored. Alex Watterman added the Bulldogs last run as he singled to left field to drive in
Tim Pokornowski. The Bulldogs pitching and defense put together one of their best outings of the season as they went on to win 7-1.
Chad Fox got the start and the win for the Bulldogs as he went 7.0 innings, gave up 5 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 4 batters.
Conor Nygard and
Zach Kuseske combined for 2.0 innings while allowing just three hits.
Tim Pokornowski and
Alex Wattermann both went 3-5 on the day with a RBI.
Ethan Cole and
Austin Gordon both tallied two hits as Gordon added 3 RBI's and two runs in the game.
Brodie Paulson also drove in two runs. Only two Bulldogs failed to tally a hit in the game. Cameron Kramer got the start for the Warriors and only went 4.0 innings while allowing 6 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 2 batters.
The Bulldogs will face Minot State tomorrow after the Minnesota State vs Augustana game in Brandonn, SD.
