MEN'S TRACK & FIELD TAKES SEVENTH PLACE IN NSIC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Aberdeen, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Duluth men's track & field squad noted a seventh place finish overall at the 2022 NSIC Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon in Aberdeen, S.D. Over three days of competition, UMD posted a total of 49.5 points as a team to finish seventh overall in the team standings. 

"Incredibly grateful for our seniors and their leadership on and off the track," said Head Coach Karly Brautigam. "They have helped pave the way for a stellar season and have shown our younger guys what it takes to be competitive in this conference."

On the track, Cole Fechner built off of his Friday performance by notching a second place finish in the men's 800 meter finals. In the event, Fechner rolled off a mark of 1:52.47 to earn UMD's highest individual finish of the championships. Also in the 800 meter run, Christian Leonard would take sixth place on the podium with a time of 1:54.73. Senior Ben Palmquist came to play in the 400 meter hurdles as he would take third place in the event. Palmquist's time of 55.20 was good enough to give the standout a spot in the top three. Palmquist would also podium in the 100 meter hurdles, after posting a time of 14.64 to grab fourth place on the individual leaderboard. Additionally, two podium positions would come for UMD in the men's relays. In the 4x400 meter relay, UMD's team of Alex Kulzer, Bereket Loer, Leonard and Fechner would combine for a mark of 3:21.31, which would be good enough for fifth place overall. In the men's 4x100 meter relay, the Bulldogs' team of Josh Miley, Nicholas Westphal, Ted Rogers and Loer would take home a seventh place podium finish with a time of 42.94.

In the field, Colton Kostynick grabbed a fourth place finish in the men's discus throw with a distance of 51.32m. Kostynick would also go on to take eighth in the men's shot put after securing a distance of 14.71 meters. In the same event, fellow Bulldog Eli Bicek would take ninth place with a distance of 14.35 meters.
