BASEBALL CAPS OFF HOME SCHEDULE WITH SWEEP OF THE MUSTANGS

Duluth, Minn. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs hosted the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs used a big offensive day to sweep the Mustangs as they won game one 10-7 and won game two 8-6. 

Game One:
The Mustangs got the scoring started in the top of the first inning as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run home run to right center. The Bulldogs answered in the top of the first thanks to a Trevor Gustafson single to score Tosten Mann. After a scoreless second inning, the Bulldogs offense exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the third. Ethan Cole scored the first run of the inning as Trevor Gustafson grouded out into a double play. From there, Tim Pokornowski singled up the middle to score Brandt Kolpack. Then, Jack Puder walked with the bases loaded to score Alex Wattermann. Nate Rosenberg then singled up the middled as Alex Wattermann and Brodie Paulson scored. Brandt Kolpack then walked with the bases loaded as Jack Puder scored. Nate Rosenberg capped off the big inning as scored on a wild pitch as the Bulldogs took a 8-2 lead after three innings. The Mustangs answered with 5 runs in the top of the fourth as they scored on a single through the left side, They then added another run on a sacrifice fly before they scored three more runs thanks to a three-run home run to make it a 8-7 Bulldogs lead. The Bulldogs managed to add a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Ethan Cole doubled to left center to score Jack Puder and then Tosten Mann singled through the left side to score Ethan Cole. The Bulldogs held onto their 10-7 lead as they won game one. 

Brandt Kolpack went 3-4 in game one with a walk, a run and a RBI. Tosten Mann, Tim Pokornowski and Ethan Cole all tallied two hits and a RBI. Nathan Rosenberg also added two RBI's in game one while Jack Puder and Trevor Gustafson added a RBI of their own. Jack Puder went 1-1 with three walks and two runs in the game. Isaac Benesh got the start for the Bulldogs as he went 5.0 innings and gave up 6 hits, 4 earned runs and struck out 3. Zach Kuseske came in for 2.0 innings of relief work as he allowed just 1 hit and struck out 1 batter to get the save. 

Game Two: 
Game two started differently than game one as teams were scoreless through 3.0 innings. The Bulldogs got the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth inning as Brodie Paulson hit a two-run home run to right field to take a 2-0 lead. Brandt Kolpack followed that up as he singled through the right side to score Jack Puder to make it 3-0. The Mustangs answered in the top of the fifth as the scored a run on a sacrifice fly to center field, and then followed that up with a single through the right side to cut it to a 3-2 Bulldogs lead. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the inning as Alex Wattermann singled down the left field line to score Trevor Gustafson and Tim Pokornowski. Brodie Paulson then scored on a passed ball to make it 6-2 after 5 innings. The Mustangs once again made it close as they scored a pair of runs in the top of the 6th inning thanks to a sacrifice fly to center field, followed up by a single to left field. Trevor Gustafson gavve the Bulldogs a pair of insurance runs as he singled to center field to score Brandt Kolpack and Tosten Mann. The Mustangs attemped a late rally as they added a pair of runs in the top of the 8th inning but came up short as the Bulldogs won game two 8-6. 

Brandt Kolpack, Trevor Gustafson, Brodie Paulson, Jack Puder and Ethan Cole all tallied two hits in game two. Gustafson, Paulson and Wattermann all tallied two RBI's in the game as Brandt Kolpack also tallied a RBI. Paulson and Tim Pokornowski scored two runs in game two. Ben Reilley got the start for the Bulldogs as he went 4.1 innings and gave up 8 hits, 2 runs and struck out 2 batters. Chase Eiden got the win in 0.2 innings of relief. Alex Wattermann sealed the win for the Bulldogs as he got the save in 1.0 innings while not allowing a hit and striking out two batters. 

Who's Next: 
The Bulldogs will travel to face the Bemidji State Beavers this weekend as they will close out the regular season with a three-game series.
