Bemidji, Minn. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the Bemidji State Beavers on Friday afternoon. After losing game one 5-4, the Bulldogs bounced back and won game two 10-1.
Game One:Â
The Bulldogs got the scoring started with a big 3rd inning as
Trevor Gustafson doubled to score
Brandt Kolpack and
Ethan Cole.
Brodie Paulson followed that up later in the top of the third with a two-run home run that scored Gustafson. From there however, the Bulldogs offense struggled to score anymore runs. The Beavers managed to respond in the bottom of the third inning as they scored on a single through the right side to make it a 4-1 Bulldogs lead. They tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a three-run home run. The Beavers would then score the go ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a double to center field. The Bulldogs did have a chance to at least tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as they had the bases loaded, but failed to take advantage of the situation as the Beavers won game one 5-4.Â
Trevor Gustafson went 2-4 on the day with two RBI's and a run, while
Brodie Paulson drove in the other two runs.
Brandt Kolpack,
Tim Pokornowski, and
Alex Wattermann all tallied a hit in the game as well.
Ben Shepard got the start for the Bulldogs and went 5.0 innings while allowing 7 hits, 5 earned runs and striking out 5.
Zach Kuseske came in for 1.0 innings of relief work as he allowed no hits and struck out one batter. Logan Barrick got the win for the Beavers as he went 5.2 innings and allowed just 6 hits, 3 walks and 0 earned runs, but struck out 7 batters.Â
Game Two:Â
The Beavers got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as they scored ona single to left field. From there, the Bulldogs controled the game.
Brodie Paulson answered with his second home run of the day as he hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning.
Jack Puder followed that up with a two-run home run of his own in the top of the second inning.
Tim Pokornowski joined the home run club as he hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning.
Trevor Gustafson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Brandt Kolpack in the top of the fourth inning.
Tim Pokornowski followed that up with a single to center field later in the inning to score
Tosten Mann.
Brodie Paulson continued his power hitting on the day as he double to right center to score
Tim Pokornowski as the Bulldogs took a 8-1 lead after four innings. The Bulldogs got back on the scoreboard in the top of the 7th inning as
Nathan Rosenberg hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score
Alex Wattermann. Rosenberg followed that up with a bases loaded walk in the top of the 8th inning as Gustafson scored. The Bulldogs capped off a big offensive game in the top of the 9th inning as
Tim Pokornowski singled to center field to score Gustafson and
Braden Farley.
Jack Puder followed that up with a RBI-single to score Pokornowski. Rosenberg tallied his third RBI of the day with a single to center field as
Alex Wattermann scored. The Bulldogs bounced back to win game two 14-1.Â
Chad Fox got the start for the Bulldogs and had one of his best starts of the season has he allowed just 4 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 4 batters in 5.0 innings.
Eli Drexler and
Eric Hinnenkamp combined for 4.0 innings of relief as they combined to not allow a hit.Â
The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season tomorrow as they will play Bemidji State in game three of their series.Â
