UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey goaltender Emma Soderberg has been named a semifinalist for the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association 2023 Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year for a third consecutive year.
Â
Soderberg is one of 11 goaltenders from four Division I conferences that advanced from a "Watch List" off 28 outstanding netminders. Voting was done by a panel of coaches, administrators and media members from across the country.  Four of the dozen are repeat semifinalists, including Soderberg, and eight of the 11 are juniors, seniors or graduate students.
Â
The Jarved, Sweden native currently ranks third in the NCAA and first in the WCHA in shutouts this season – the first Bulldog to post six or more clean sheets in multiple seasons in program history. Soderberg also ranks sixth in the NCAA with a 1.63 goals against average and 11th with a .929 saves percentage. The graduate student has also helped UMD to the fifth stingiest defense in the country – the Bulldogs rank fifth with a 1.50 goals allowed a game. As a team, UMD has nine shutouts – the second most in all of the nation. Soderberg, who now ranks second in program history with 18 shutouts and is one win away from 50 for her career,
